    Adios Pete

One of Alaska's most talented cycling sons has left the building. One set of dirty tail lights on the Glenn Highway yesterday belonged to none other than the Sultan of Single Speed himself - - Mr. Peter Basinger. Word is he roams south for dry singletrack, blue sky and new challenges. Ride On Pete.

It was very hard to see Pete leave the other morning. Pete, you're like a daughter to me. Thanks for all of your efforts man. Hope to see you soon.

He told me a few days ago that he thought he'd be here (W. CO) by Friday.

I know that Pete has made a habit lately of getting places faster than most folks think possible, but--is that possible?

    Seems awfully fast to me.

I sorta got the idea that Pete skipped the 'formality' of being tired after the epic to Nome. He was too jazzed about moving to the US to bother...

a friend of mine once did utah to anchorage in 3 days by herself... and then she slept for 2 days straight. i'm pretty sure she was putting in 18-20 hours a day behind the wheel. i guess pete's gotten kind of used to that over the past 3 weeks.

it's crazy what immigrants will go through to get to the US.

I'll miss his sweet kisses and hairy legs rubbing against mine when we spoon. Bye bye Pete-y Pie.

Hopefully I'll see you out west one day...

    Take it easy, bud.

Good to hear you made it. The car held up, eh? If you need a place to crash when you come back up just let me know.

Something tells me that while Pete may miss the spooning and fathering of y'all, he isn't missing Alaska too much.

    Just a hunch though...
