    recommended chain maintenance

I've had my Guardian for just over a month and it is now officially good and dirty What should I be doing after a good trail ride to keep the chain clean? My LBS recommended soap and water followed by a wet lube. I've read just brushing the dirt off is good enough. Dunno.

I usually do a quick post ride clean up, wipe dust off stanchions and do a quick wipe of the chain. After a couple rides (or about 75 miles) I will also do a drop of dry lube on each chain roller. Thats probably an excessive schedule but a bottle of lube goes a long way and it takes no time at all to do.

I will usually do a full wash and tune up of my bikes every couple weeks. If the chain looks gritty then I will drag it though a chain cleaning device with degreaser and relube it.

I prefer dry lube during the summer as wet lube will just attract dust and gum everything up.
