Guardian 2.0 page is now live for info and pre-orders

For those of you who are interested, we've got the page up for the new Guardian. More pics to come later!

    Airborne Bicycles. Guardian 2.0

Fork has been increased to 100mm, FD upgraded to X5, curved TT on the 16" frame (just like the Goblin) for better standover clearance.

We are stoked to be able to offer 2 color choices! Sales have been so good that we are able to start doing this with more models now.

Thanks so mcuh for all of the support,

    Jeremy

Very cool, I like both colors but if I were getting another Guardian, I'd go with the black/red. I'm impressed you guys kept the price the same but still added a few small touches. I think this is an improvement over the original Guardian, which is saying a lot.

Hey there, I hope you don't mind if I answer a few questions for ya............

Airborne has been around since April of 2010. There used to be another company named Airborne from 1998-2004 that offered Ti and Aluminum bikes, but they went out of business. We are the same company in name-only. Two of us that work here at Airborne used to work for the first Airborne in their sales department and marketing department.

Shipping is indeed $75, but right now we are running a free freight deal until 7/30. We normally don't do any free freight deals except for new-model pre-orders.

Thinking I'll be buying an Airborne bike this week or next. While lurking in the past I ran accross the above. Does it apply here? Btw NW OH childhood here too. A bit further north though.

We aren't running any pre-order specials on the Guardian. At the price we kept it at, $75 is a huge chunk of any profit we make. I hope that doesn't change your enthusiasm about ordering one.

NW Ohio? Is that the Toledo area? If so i really like Toledo. I've been there many times.

Maumee. My mom still lives on River Road up there. My brother lives in Toledo. I moved to sunnier weather.

I'll be ordering Friday. I'll call for sizing tomorrow, as i fall on a line.

Unfortunatly, it increases it. The $75 was what I needed to Justify the Seeker to the wife. That's why it was an "ordering this week or next" thing. NBD. I'm sure I'll like the Guardian.

Hmm, I would've waited and bought the black/red. Oh well, maybe I'll get a Seeker next... My Guardian already has the X5 FD so not a big deal about the 100mm for me on trails, anyway. Great bikes.

Thanks a lot, now I have to choose between black/red and white. I'm hoping for a more subdued color and REALLY can't decide.

On the other hand I also can't decide on the size too. I am 5' 7'' and 30 inch inseam. It should be obvious that I'm a 16 inch right? Feels like i'm on the border but a 18 inch bike with 30.5 inseam seems not doable.

Those new guardians look amazing guys.
Out of curiosity, can you guys keep the old guardians specs page up on your website somewhere?

I know there are only a few changes between the new and old guardians but i often pull up my bikes stats for component sizes and measurements from your site.

All this Toledo talk, you guys should do a bike demo at jermain park. The trail builders there have been hard at work and it's turning into a great ride.

I would give them a call, have tape measure ready (are those inseams pant inseams or true inseams?). They are easy to talk to and can help getting on the right size.

COLOR i am in the same boat. I am waiting on the additional pictures to decide.

Thanks! The black/red bike is more subdued than the white one for certain.

I'd say you'd want the 16. You are close in size to a guy here in the office and he rides a 16 with a longer than stock stem.

    Hope that helps!

We just had a conversation about that today. We are thinking about making PDF's out of the old pages (they are still there, just hidden from navigation) and housing them on our server for download if someone needs them. I've got some other things ahead of that in terms of priorities but should get to it. In the meanwhile don't hesitate to call or email if you need some info from us, thanks!

My two cents worth. I like being able to print out 1 page that has a picture of the bike on top and the specs on the bottom. If that is a .pdf then that works fine.

Nice to have a hard copy of the bike sometimes to compare side by side with other bikes.

I suspect that the Guardian orders will drop off and the Seeker orders will be waaay more than you anticipated.

Airborne is doing a lot of things right.

I know that your design folks have their hands full, but you folks should strongly consider a jersey, at least. There are a ton of guys, with Airborne rides, who would love to help the cause by wearing an Airborne jersey when they ride. Not just free pub, but you'd actually make money from the jersey sales.

Still just deciding on color for me. I'm think red/black is better for a mtb cause it would conceal dirt better.

Anyways, I'm wondering if you will ever have in stock some more of those "value" pedals as I hope to pick one up as I order (PB60)?

Actually, I think that the white shows dirt less. I've had both black cars and white cars, and the black cars always show dirt, dust, and water spots worse than the white cars. But black is a faster color.

Our ability to get Exustar pedals has dried up due to a change in their organization. We are working on carry another brand of pedals in the future. Sorry for the inconvenience!

    Thanks for the kind words!

We know we will lose a few Guardian sales to the Seeker, but it won't be a lot and if that's so we're OK with that . The sub-$700 29er price-range is an important price-point and will still probably be a huge part of sales for us.

I hear you on the jerseys. It's top on my personal wish-list but low on the priority list at the moment.

Quick question from a noob clyde still looking to purchase...What is the more $ sound transition...going from Guardian to Seeker or Guardian straight to Goblin? I am fully able to purchase any one, but which is the best bang for the buck?

I think that most will say if you can afford the Goblin then go for it.

All are great values. IMO, the Guardian is a great way to get into MTBs for very little money.

But, now the Seeker looks to be a REALLY, REALLY nice bike for the money.

If you can afford Seeker or Goblin then go for one of those. They are worth the extra money for the tapered head tube and fork.

    2x10 costs more.

We packed what improvements we could into the new Guardian, and in spite of our costs going up slightly due to materials increases, we held the cost at $599.

If you want 2x10 take a look at the Seeker in our line-up. It has 2x10, outboard-bearing X5 cranks, tapered HT, and a Recon TK Gold Solo Air fork. A lot of bang for the buck for $300 more.

The guardian 2.0 is hands down the best bike for the money. There might be one or 2 bikes in the same price range that are comparable, but after calling Airborne, I definitely realized this company is the one I wanted to buy from. The guy I talked to was super friendly and patient with me, so I went ahead and purchased a new guardian 2.0 this evening. I wish I didn't have to wait till August 5th before it ships out though. Thanks Airborne. I can't wait to ride.

You guys both made a good decision. It really is a solid bike. I got my Guardian back in April and have rode the crap out of it several times a week since. I've had no issues with it so far. I like it more every time I crawl aboard. Enjoy!

I'm pretty set on this bike. Leaning a little to the Seeker (beautiful bike by the way) but I'm not sure how much more serious I'll get into biking. From what I can tell, this updated Guardian seems like a bike that can suit the needs of an intermediate biker. I think it will definitely be good enough for me.

Now, white or black? How about more photos?! Maybe it will help some more potential customers make up their mind

We're going to take some more studio shots next week of both colors.

The response in regards to pre-orders of the new Guardian 2.0 has been very overwhelming. We were looking today at the volume that's come in the past 10 days and had to double-check it because the number is so high. I think the warehouse is going to be the busiest its ever been next month when Guardians and Seekers arrive.

Thanks so much to all who have pre-ordered their bikes!

Guardians have landed in the port, and we should be shipping them out by the end of this week! For those of you who have placed an order we will be sending you a tracking# the morning after the bikes ship. We are so stoked about the number of Guardians we've pre-sold! Thanks so much for your patience!

    Great questions!

OK, we've learned this year that the demand for our bikes is growing exponentially so for this latest round of Guardians we built a double-batch. So its not like the last run of the red ones where more than half were spoken-for before they even hit our warehouse.

Even though we pre-sold A LOT of these, we still should have enough stock of all sizes to last us up to the winter. We are working right now on following up with another run at some point in the near future in the hopes of NOT running out at all. We hate running out of bikes so we are doing everything in our power to prevent that from happening again.

Thanks and let me know if you have any additional questions!

Yesterday was the busiest day our warehouse has ever had in terms of shipping out orders. We shipped out A LOT of Guardians.

If you are waiting on your Guardian and there wasn't a tracking# in your email this morning, please be patient as we have more to ship over the next two days.

There were two customers that for some reason we had incomplete or incorrect contact info for. If your last name is Jelinek or Jenkins, please contact me via PM and I'll give you your tracking#, thanks!

I was quite surprised and thrilled when I got my email!

I'm going to my LBS Saturday to take a look at some clipless pedals. Also to get on good terms with them just in case I have a problem that I can't figure out.

Good work on getting these bikes out earlier! I can't wait!

Sorry to hear about that! You should be able to bend it back into place to ride it unless it is broken. PM me with your order# and we'll send a new one out on Monday.

Ordered my Guardian this morning and cannot wait for it to arrive! After an exhaustive weekend on the phone with Paypal I contacted Jeremy who was incredibly helpful, and helped me place an order the old fashioned way. I canít say enough positive things about my customer service experience so far. Now I just have to sit back and wait for the Fed Ex man to bring my new toy!

    Jeremy,

Do you have any of the Red frames from last year lying around? I am about to order a guardian 2.0, but I figured I would ask, I think like that color choice.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Jeremy,

Hot white it shall be then!.... Now for sizing. 5'-9" with 30ish inseam. Will the 18 do the trick, or should I go to a bike shop and test fit theirs? If so, what bike has the same geometry?

    Thanks for your help,
    Steve

Got the bike today! I put it together with minimal problems. Started biking around my neighborhood and the shifting was off. So I started messing around with the derailleurs, got the rear one working well. Started on the front one. Boy did things go wrong. Note this is my first time really trying to tune my own bike. I had no idea what I was doing, I've only seen a few youtube videos. Eventually towards the end, everything just clicked and I knew what I had to do but then the shifter cable started shredding. I also couldn't tell if the adjuster on the shifter was working or not. I don't blame Airborne, the bike is amazing from when I gave it a 10 minute ride. It was my own fault for getting too grabby with the needle nose.

I'm glad I learned more about the bike. Now, I don't know if I should just throw in the towel and take it to the LBS to get repaired or try to route new cables myself and try to tune it again.. Right now I just want it working and it seems like the LBS takes 3-5 days to fix up the bikes.

Did you buy the cheap Raceface parts that are $20 each? Are these any better than the Airborne labeled OE parts?

I did. I don't know if they are better, but I wanted riser bars and I figured I would try these since I have always used Race Face on my previous bikes. I will eventually upgrade to the higher level stuff, but figured this would work for now.

I didn't want to go cheap on the Chainring so I got the new Wide Narrow Wide.
I have never had a bad product from Race Face before, so I trust that these will be fine.

I am almost sure about buying the Guardian 2.0, but it would be nice if there were more pictures on the webpage (front view, rear view, top view), so I can get an idea of how the whole bike look like from all sides.

    Thanks

If you google Airborne Guardian 2.0 then you'll get a few pictures that don't appear on the web site. Maybe enough to help decide.

Got my Race Face bars, stem, and seatpost in and on.
Threw on a Titanium railed Serfas that I took off my Homegrown before I sold it.
Riding position feels better with the shorter stem and riser bars, so I will call it an upgrade. The Race Face stuff also feels lighter.
I will make a couple more posts so I can post pictures.

My Guardian showed up last Friday. Assembly was really quick and easy. I think its a really sharp bike. Im really happy with my purchase. Only issues are still need to get the brakes to stop dragging and that seat is really hard. Of course i have spent most of the summer on my recumbent, so my butt is not really in shape. Overall i dig it and i cant wait to do some mud slinging next week. Thanks Airborne!

Swapped out my BB, cranks and triple ring for RACE FACE BB, Cranks and 34T WnW today.
Called one LBS and asked how much to swap out a BB, was told $22.
I said fine, and I also want to put on new cranks after the swap.
LBS said that would be an extra $20. I said "Don't you have to put the cranks back on after you swap the BB?" Silence........
"Well, sometimes there are some adjustments that we have to do with new cranks."
Then he told me that he would have it done by Saturday, Monday at the latest.

I took bike to another shop and the kid there did the whole thing for $20. Even took off the Front Der. and shifters, adjusted my brakes and dialed in my Rear Der. He had it all done in about 40 minutes.
I gave him a $10 tip and will gladly return.
May get him to do a tubeless set-up for me.

If you started an order and didn't finish it (like it got dropped after you exited our website to go to pay for it), then there will be a non-complete order. It eventually gets dropped from the system and disappears.

Great! Post pics when you get it together? I've never seen a 16" Guardian in that color.

Definitely will. I, too, have not seen the curved TT in the hot white so looking forward to it!

That's what I figured, just had to email you guys to be safe, and of course got a prompt reply! Besides it did only charge the CC once so I wasn't worried. Thanks!

    Never.

We have enough problems keeping bikes in stock as it is. Demand is generally exceeding supply.

The bikes are a great price to begin with. Taking $75 profit off of our bottom line ensures that we wouldn't be around long.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

Just ordered my Guardian earlier today! This will be my first bike. Can't wait til it is delivered. BTW I tried calling you guys today to make sure I ordered the right size, but couldn't get anyone to pick up. I ordered the 18" in Hot White. My brother has the 1.0 in 20" and he feels like he could have gone down a size so I went with the 18.

Congratulations! Its pretty much just 2 guys that answer the phones and run the day to day so if they don't answer, definitely leave a message and they really do call back.

    You'll love it.

If you called and didn't receive an answer, that means we were on the phones or out to lunch from 12-1pm. Our voicemail answer that kicks in if we can't answer should have given you that info. If you would have left a message someone would have called you back.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

What sort of tools are required to assemble the bike out of the box?

I just got my Guardian on Wednesday, hopefully it is dry enough to ride this weekend.
I only needed an Allen wrench to assemble it. Only issue I have so far is my front brake rubs a little.

The brakes on the Guardian I bought for my wife did as well. I centered the calipers and then it just took some truing of the rotors to fix it up. I would listen to when the rotor started to rub and when it stopped, then, using a shop towel over my fingers, simply pulle don that area of the rim until it quit

Are the 18s still out of stock?

I may have gotten antsy and ordered the wrong frame size (20).

I'm around 5'10", but with a 34" inseam. Think the 20 will work? I went to my LBS earlier today, and they recommended that I get a "large" (Giant Revel 29er), which I think is a 19" frame, but I have a feeling that the 20 will be too big (18 too small?).

Pants inseam or measured inseam? I am 6'1" with a 33.5 inseam and ride an 18 goblin, but I needed to use a 400mm seatpost to get my fit correct. I also have my bars pretty low compared to the seat.

Measured inseam (barefoot to crotch). I've got long legs and a small torso haha. I emailed Airborne today to ask their advice (and potentially to cancel the order), but I'll give them a call tomorrow.

I don't really want to wait until August to get an 18 though. I might just have to order something else (though I'm not quite sure what 29ers compare to the AG at this price range). I just don't want to be too stretched out on a 20.

Guardian 2.0 page is now live for info and pre-orders

FWIW when I was shopping I was looking at 19" bikes (which are sometimes actually 19.5") and I ended up buying a 20" Goblin. That being said I would still call or email Airborne to have them verify fit for you.

Thanks for the reply! Posted this in my other thread:

I called Airborne (which has fantastic service btw), and they walked me through my dimensions + a comparison to the Giant Revel 29er that I tried at my LBS. Looks like the 20" AG would probably work if I felt comfortable on a large Revel 29er, but it would be right on the edge fit-wise. Just to be safe, I decided to go ahead and cancel my order for the 20. I'd rather ride something that's slightly too small than something that's slightly too big.
