    Broken Shifter

I took a good spill yesterday on my ride and broke my front X7 shifter on my evo. I need your opinions on what I should do:

1- remove the front shifter and keep the front derailleur as a chain guide.

2- replace front shifter with one just like it.

3- Change out to a narrow wide single front ring. While this option sounds good, I am not too familiar with what I need to get. Do I need spacers? new bolts? Anything else that I should be aware of to mount on to the X7 cranks?

Thank you all for the help.

Well, that depends... Do you want 10 gears and the slightly reduced weight, or do you want the extra highs and lows of the 2x10?

Derailleurs are cheap, but so is the narrow wide.

I'd replace the shifter. If you live anywhere hilly you'll appreciate the wider gear range.

For what it's worth I converted to a 1x10 by keeping the 24 up front, replacing the big ring with a bash guard and installing an n-gear jump stop. I ride in a *really* hilly area and don't care about spinning out on down hills but need the 24 up front for the ups.

So far it's worked great but it may not work for your area. I hadn't shifted into the big ring in months.
