    Cannondale Frankenstein bike advice

    Hey all!

I searched the forums and could not find anything related so if I missed I apologize.

So I have a 2014 Cannondale Trail 5 I got new for a great deal, and have been slowly upgrading components over the years. I am a medical student (aka I'm poor) and a clydesdale rider (6'4", 250) but love to ride and love to work on my bike.

I am asking for advice on a fork upgrade as I have pretty much beat the crap out of my current one, something under $300 but good quality. New or used, pretty much open to anything as long as it rides well.

    My questions are:

Does anyone know compatible sizing with my current frame?
Are there any good websites out there for what I am looking for?
Am I able to put a fork with longer travel than stock on?
    Any advice while I look?

    Anything helps guys! Thanks!

It looks like you're limited to a fork with a straight (1 1/8") steerer tube and a 9 mm QR front axle so you'll probably have to look to ebay for a used one. I don't think any companies still make straight steerers with a 9 mm QR (I may be wrong). I would look for a 100-120 mm fork from Rock Shox like a Reba or Revelation or even a Sektor. A similar fork from Fox or Manitou will also do the job. Biggest thing is to just be sure its a straight steerer with a QR front axle.

Edit: Are you sure your bike as 29 inch wheels?

Yessir! She's a 29er alright. Dude, nothing on the market has straight steerer in the length I need. I took it off my jumbo frame to measure the length...8.25". Have yet to see a used straight steerer that long. Hoping Ill get lucky with a new older model someone is trying to get rid of. We shall see.
