    Weight Saving on a GF Superfly 100?
    Please I need tips on how to save some weight on my Gary Fisher 2010 Superfly 100, since I installed a CrankBrothers Joplin 4 on it because i hit some major technical descents on my rides followed quickly by steep climbs etc and I was tired of having to stop and keep moving my seatpost and all my friends with Joplins just kept shredding the course and no stopping. ...But of course it is heavier than the stock carbon seatpost that comes with the Superfly.... I have everything else "stock" and I put the Time Atac titanium/carbon XS which are great and light. Maybe a lighter handlebar but havent found one with the big sweep necessary for the 29ers, maybe go tubeless? i don't know..... Help

    Cheapest weight loss I can think of on that bike is going tubeless (approx $50) and throw on a carbon handlebar ($60+ depending on what deals, make/model, etc). Doubt it will make up the difference on that seatpost though.

    They come in around 24 lb stock. My buddies bike is low 21 lb.
    He totally gutted the bike- his buiild is.
    XX kit with twist shifter left side.
    Stans lightest wheelset with the lightest rims he could pull out of the pile- 1300ish gram wheelset.
    2.25 Racing Ralphs.
    Ritchey Superlogic post
    Carbon Arione saddle
    Ritchey WCS Stem
    Easton Monkey Light SL bar

    Probably at least half the weight loss is in the wheels/tires.

    just go tubeless. You'll lose weight where it actually matters and probably like the ride/handling better to boot. Don't freak out about weight (especially in a seatpost) its not going to affect you that much.

    I'm calling BS (unless by "1300ish" you mean over 1400g). ~250g to split between both hubs? Riiiiiiight. :skep:

    Easiest way to loose weight on your Superfly is to loose the Joplin.

    if that much additional non rotational weight is gonna make that big of a difference, then don't run it. 24 lbs for a stock FS 29 is pretty damn light. Do you really want to spend another $1k to try and loose the extra 400g that you gained by putting the Joplin on in the first place.

    Adjustable seatposts are not made for the weight weenies in all of us.

    Sell the Superfly100 w/ carbon seatpost (24#)...
    Buy a Specialized S-Works Epic Carbon 29er (22#)...
    Remove S-Works Seatpost (1/4#)...
    Install Joplin (<1#)...

    Your bike now weighs less than 23#...

    Go tubeless. Even though the bike won't change a whole lot on a scale, your rotating mass will be less and the bike will feel a couple pounds lighter on the climbs;)

    tune prince / princess, aerolites and some crest rims get you to a little over 1300g.

    and you can still get lower with some 28h edge rims and tune hubs.

    i am sure there are plenty of other options.

    by "stan's lightest wheelset" you think he meant the $900 tune hubset that they don't offer? and edge rims, of course, because because everyone's got a few of those in the pile for pulling out... and stan's loves to build wheelsets with other people's rims.
    edge XC rims weigh more than crest, btw. oh, but he meant tubular, right?
    plenty of options? like what? name two.

    Lose that Joplin crutch. If you're riding stuff where you really need it, you're not in Fly 100 territory, anyway.

    You gained about a half of a pound with the Joplin post. I don't think you'll notice it. Go tubeless if you have not and then go ride. Salsa makes bigger sweep light carbon bars if you feel the need.

    Stan's advertises their Race 29er wheels @ 1370 grams. Mine came in at 1350. I would guess that those are the wheels bootsie_cat is talking about.

    I've dropped the weight of my SF100 down to below 22lbs but this is pretty much race only build with Stans Race wheels (1370grams). Other places to save weight were saddle(SLR), brakes(Formula R1), drivetrain. Bars (170grams),stem(135grams)and seatpost (200grams) that come stock are nice and light and you're never going to save much there.
    Tubeless will definitely help, think I weighted my stock tubes at 200grams each!
