    SOMA Do..SOMA Don't

These Soma's Do! What a nice frame for the money! Nice fit and finish. Cable guides are well thought out. Really swanky paint. It really pops in the sun!

Here's GoatCessca building up her new commuter. With a change of wheels and tires, it will also see dirt time.

    Spannerin'!

Soma: It is described as prepared by pressing juice from the stalks of a certain mountain plant, which has been variously hypothesized to be water, honey, alcohol, mead, a psychedelic mushroom, and cannabis.

I guess it IS better than Koolaid!

""It is described as prepared by pressing juice from the stalks of a certain mountain plant, which has been variously hypothesized to be water, honey, alcohol, mead, a psychedelic mushroom, cannabis, Peganum harmala, pomegranate, Blue lotus[1], or ephedra. In both Vedic and Zoroastrian tradition, the drink is identified with the plant, and also personified as a divinity, the three forming a religious or mythological unity. It is considered by some to be the symbolic representation of the Supreme Truth.""

    Soma don't:

I've seen two of those frames crack at the junction of the seatstays and the seatube, hopefully they've fixed that. Sorry to rain on your parade, just thought I'd let you know to keep an eye out for that. Good looking bike though!

I like those Somas. They make decent frameset, and their cross frames are pretty nifty, really.

Me 4. For mine, from the looks of it the junction wasn't even welded, just tacked and that was it...

I still like the bike though and am going to have it repaired by a local frame repairer and resprayed. Shame Soma don't sell the decals...

That's funny - the more I ride Small Block 8s the more I think they really are road tires. Actually, really great road tires just not so good in the loose dirt.

    Hydro Routing?

So, I'm thinking of drilling out the cable stops under the top tube and routing the hydro line underneath the TT, rather than zip tie'ing it to the side.

    It's her call though.

Here's the post production Nov. 07 model Juice w/ headtube gusset. After 7 months of beating the s$&t out of it training (AM and XC) and a 24hr endurance later there have been no problems so far. Knock on wood. Hope this thread doesn't deter away potential Juice buyers......

"Just tacked and that was it" that should be sufficient the paint covers it anyway.
Come on guys I'm sure these issues have been addressed. Let’s get back to the topic at hand, which is "this" beautiful bike. She just built up a gem of a bike and you guy's are bagging on past issues. I for one think she will be way happy and should display it proudly.
As far as drilling out the cable stops and running the lines under the TT. I think it may look cleaner but Steve don't you think by drilling the frame it will void her warranty?

Sweet! That came out very slick. I bet if you were to send these photos to Soma they would change their cable guides to under the TT and incorporate it into the next batch of frames. It's too bad there is no way to remove [other than grinding and repainting] the original guides on the side of the TT.

I hope the issues have been addressed. I really like my Soma and was totally bummed when I discovered the crack. I really hope GC doesn't come across the same problem and that she enjoys her Soma as much as I have mine.

It's still great to see the legion of Soma riders growing!

Looks good to me! Only Soma know the numbers on problems but I bet they have been all over the factory on these problems. Small runs = quick retool and QC response.
I'd estimate the numbers of problems would be hardly any different to other manufacturers.
I'd like a comment from Soma though!

I have seen those pics - and unfortunate that's for sure. And was probably a QC issue again, though when I look at the tubing it's thin and that's difficult to weld and get a good fill on. Glad you weren't too damaged. I'm sure any waekness in that area has been addressed with the new design. Once again though perhaps a Soma representative would like to comment
