Iíve got a Vittoria Morsa 2.3 on a 25 id rim and thatís all the bigger Iíd want to go. I really doubt thereís enough room for a 2.5 or 2.6.

It's a tight rear triangle for 29 inch tires. I'd stick with 2.35s and not go much wider than 30 mm rims.

I have successfully run Maxxis Minion DHF and Aggressor tires at 2.5. Only reason I am not at the moment is DHF is over 1,000 grams.

I run 2.5 DHF on the front and 2.3 aggressor on the rear on my hightower. I also have run a 2.4 DHR on the back but clearance is tight. I don't see much of a need to run a bigger tire in back. The extra .1" isn't going to add considerable grip or tire volume... besides, I like my bikes a bit under tire-ed in the back for the drifting action.

I'm currently on a SC Hightower 27.5+ with 2.8 tires.... thinking about switching to a 29er... why would 2.5 or 2.6 tires not fit on a bike already running 2.8's? I'm not a pro so looking for some info here. Thanks!

I guess it depends on which tire. I run Nobby Nics 2.6 front & rear on my Hightower, WR1 30mm internal rims, absolutely no problem

Also used these with same internal width with no problem. Maybe muddy conditions may be right but for hardpack no problem.

Hi, for the guys above with 29x2.6 nics, can you post a pic of the tire fitted? Just wanted to see the clearance. My DHR II 29x2.3 is already a little tight as it is (compared to an older sb95c frame i replaced the HT with.
    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like it also depends on what rims you are running. I have a 2.35 Nobby Nic (Addix / Snakeskin version) mounted in the rear on i29 rims and there isn't much clearance. I'm really surprised to hear that the 2.6 Nobby Nic fits. The 2.35 Nobby Nic measures a little more than 2.4 inches in width, but it is a tall tire. I don't know if the 2.6 Nobby Nic has a different profile.

A friend is running a 29x2.6 Maxxis Rekon on the back of his and it is also tight. He definitely has rub marks inside his frame where things trapped in the tire have scraped the frame up.

Edit: just checked tonight - looks like I have 7-8mm of clearance with my 29x2.35 Nobby Nic in the rear triangle.

The 27.5 tires have a smaller radius, so there is more clearance inherently in the rear triangle. The problem isn't the width of the tire - it's how 'tall' it is (i.e. - how much it increases the radius of the wheel).
