Raleigh talus or Trek x-cal 5

I am new to the Mountain Biking world. I used to bmx a few years back, but now I'm looking to try something new. I am trying to buy my first mountain bike and could use some help. I am looking to do some trail riding. The two bikes I'm trying to decide between are the Raleigh Talus 2013 and the Trek x-caliber 5, 2014. I don't know much about mountain bike specs so if i could get a little input to make my decision easier that would be awesome! Other bike recommendations would be nice too. Thank you!

    Here are the two bikes:

The Trek has the best frame geo with good steering and stability in turns and downhills.
Unfortunately the forks on both bikes are aimed at bike paths.
Suntour says of the 'X' series forks--
    RTR: Recreational trail
Work out with your buddies: No rough terrain, no steep climbs or downhills!
Just floating along the city river or through the forest behind your house.

No rebound damping adjustability. which means pogoing at speed over bumps.
Poor quality internal bushings which will fail when pushed.

At this time of the year you may find 2013s at deep discounts. Treks at 35 off.
I would shop around for something more trail ready.

If I were you, I'd try Craigslist or the like. You can probably find something that originally cost 1K a year or two ago, for 500-700.

The X-Caliber 6 would be your best bet. It has hydraulic disk brakes, and a great frame geometry, as it has G2, a Trek trademark.

I actually picked up the trek x-cal 6 today! Trek is a very reliable company here in Wisconsin and from what I've heard they work with their customers to resolve most problems. Thanks for the input!
