Dropoff to follow, as big as I'll dare them

My only geared race on my SS KM, and it hurt good.

SS Worlds Berlin. Well, almost Poland really. Great trails.

This hurt more than you'd think. Keutenberg, 21%, part of the Amstel Gold Race, Road WC course. This summer I could hardly breathe thanks to astma, so a sprint up this almost made me black out half way. This is a show pic BTW, for which I rode back, the gf wanted to take it. Not a good place for a SS bike.
Our camping site in somewhere between the trees just before the climb.

    Action, or lack there off.....

A bit weak, but they show some transitions on my bike. The second from 18th? of June, and the first from the 22nd of November.

These are of me on the same bike photo'd described in the "how much does your monkey weigh" thread below.

Shot 1: OTF at a Arkansas race, "Challenge of Bear Creek." I bonked on a hill and wound up with 2nd.
    <img border=2 img src="https://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/867718/nathan.jpg">

Shot 2: Day 1 of 2-day stage race - Arkansas State Championship at Devils Den. My stem's clamp came loose 10 minutes into the race, I was OTF at the time, I had to borrow a tool (not allowed, I know), and get back into it. This photo is of me coming across the finish line in 3rd. I won 1st in the 2nd stage by about 1 minute, but I still got 2nd in my class due to the loss the day before.

    Zoom-Zoom

The whole pack was behind me and I was near the top of the initial climb (this was after they made fun of my 29" wheel being slow on climbs). Hope the pic is not too small...

    Hey Cloxxi,
Let me give you some breathing tips:
    1. Bring your bar height up above your knees, at least.
    2. Put on some handlebars that are wide than a set of road bars.

No, really, asthma, whatever... i DARE you to try out a 10 degree stem and some 28" riser bars...Heck..I'll ship some to you for you to try...please..do it for the children...

My arm length makes up for the bar-seat hieght difference. Just got in an H-bar that's slightly wider than spec'd, I'm gonna love it I'm sure.
No, my threashold is at 180/183bpm, and above 150bpm my breathing gets hard to the point of sufficating. In various races I dropped out before I would actually got OUT due to oxygen deprivation. Not fun.

I've got a movie that shows Nightfire and myself totally leaving the SS pack behind at the start in Arnhem (NL) last year. So much for bad acceleration with 29" wheels... Where can I host it?

    *****

More pics, made them small to load quicker than one chunky one.

Not 2004, rather 2001 or 2002 : Riding the 29/26" Frankenbike conversion. Not like the real thing, but it was just getting ready to buy a full 29"er. I sortof miss that bike, although I still have all the parts to re-build it. I only rode it a few times, but it really was so cool to feel the change to how it rode with 26/26" wheels. In this first pic, I'm being chased by some local heroes on the only nice part of a winter cross course. The big front wheel really rule when jumping into/through ditches with wet roots.

2004, 2nd stage of UCI 3-stage race. 29" ruled, rigid hurt. Smooth sandy trails get bumpy at speed.

One more from my gearie race on the SS KM, last September.Dropping the gearies that slipstreamed me down straights, on the twisty singletracks.

Local winter cross, MTB class. Just for kicks. Regulations still say 26" max is allowed.

2003, on my way to the inaugural Dutch Open SS Champs. 6 competitors left in the Dutch Dust. Last race before I first got ill with annual asthma that's been killing me June/November since.

Last October, unique 3-hour race in the north of The Netherlands. Riding down a former waste dump acting as recreational area. 3m28 hours of Dutch wet trails is LONG!

Slim, a fast shutter speed and those shots would have been REALLY good. As they sit though, they do show good speed...

    VooDoo

Here is a photo from our upcoming catalog. The only explanation for the goofy look on my face I guess is the 2 foot drop I was about to roll off. But then, maybe that is the same look I always have... - jb

Notice how the green bikes wheels are larger...? Does not mean the pilot was any faster, unfortunatly.
