    Photo Friday Early Edition

I finally get to post some worthy pictures. Even though most of these photos don't involve biking but some do. Anyway just got back from the UP in Michigan. Youll see Pictured Rocks National Park, me on a beach cruiser, Grand Hotel and some others. Any way enjoy and if you ever want to go to the UP in Michigan well worth it!!

I did but it was on the way home so nothing was open that early. The wife and I started to miss the little one (2yrs old). And after a 4 day trip we just wanted to get home.

And for the smell of menure it wasn't that bad surprising. But the fudge oohh baby was that smelling and tasting might good.

From the desert to the mountains. And back.

    And back again.

A ~week worth of pictures from down low, up high, and a lotta the spaces and places in between.

who'd have thought a bogged bike could be pretty

Funny, first thing I thought when I saw the bell in the first photos is how bad the welds were....

The weather is finally cooling off/drying up around here in WI! Everyday this week, I've been out in the woods, either working on trails, or riding them. Been a good week.

I've been running kids mountain bike days on Mondays most of the summer. They're consistenly been some of the shortest, but most fun rides I've had all summer. Ages have ranged from 9 to 13.
    <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4932149046/" title="kids mtb day! by unclefuzzy_ss, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4932149046_8a76e23039_b.jpg" width="900" height="675" alt="kids mtb day!" /></a>
    <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4931555255/" title="kids mtb day! by unclefuzzy_ss, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/4931555255_f599e8a2e0_b.jpg" width="675" height="900" alt="kids mtb day!" /></a>

This section of trail, the back slope was filling in with leaf debris, and the tread was slowly creaping to the edge. A little work with a McLeod and bam! nice ridable tread again.
    <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4931556255/" title="trail work by unclefuzzy_ss, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4099/4931556255_72aae2f94d_b.jpg" width="675" height="900" alt="trail work" /></a>

This section was simply over grown. We share trail with horses in the park here[mostly an ok thing...], and they were creeping the trail down hill, completely off the tread of the trail. We cut the brush back and benched the trial a bit uphill again. An hours worth of work put to good use.

    Here's to getting better fast!

I should be riding path in about 2 or 3 weeks, hitting the trails (carefully!) first week of October.

I still get the vicarious thrill from the pix, though:

Beautiful rocky Austin Texas. Notice the magicshine - cause I like to stay out late. Love the new Gary Fisher HiFI 29er - slapped on some wider bars and it is just awesome...

Crystal Mill has been pretty well photographed. My favorite is in black and white but autumn there is amazing as well.

You guys take some fantastic photos! I'm not sure where you are all getting all this "green" stuff - South San Jose, Ca. is dry and catches fire real easily

Did my daily lunch ride and was, like, "Who's BBQ'ing?" when I reached the top of climbing Stiles @ Santa Teresa County Park (about 5 miles from my house).

Then I saw the smoke was all around me.
Then I saw the three planes hovering.
    Then I heard the sirens.
Then I realized, "Oh sh*t, my trails are on fire."

The fire was on the stable side of Bernal Rd., so it was no where near Rocky Ridge (a very popular tech single track). But given the weather and slight wind we had yesterday, STP was a perfect candidate for going up in flames. I don't believe anybody got hurt (usually I'm the only one on the trails at lunch), but I feel kinda bad for all my animal friends. I've heard fire fighters talk about rabbits on fire running away as they're burning, further spreading the fire.

They took care of it pretty fast, though.

    Fire a'blazing...

Obligatory bike-at-top-of-climb pic. The rigid 29'er goes suprisingly quick up the rocky stuff.

A few more from Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Some pictures taken in the UP during a trip to Marquette at the end of July/beginning of August:

Got in a short ride in St. Ignace, mostly snowmobile trails, but some of the North Country Trail... at the end of the ride, near our campsite:

In Marquette, on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, much of it old railroad grade, including the bridge over US-41:

Saw an owl on the Harlow Farms connector, gravel road section:

Ride didn't end so well though:

Ah well, out with the old, in with the new:

Next day, on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail (proposed at least) going out to Negaunee:

Negaunee Old Town, soon to have extensive single track:

Final day of riding, a section of the Gorgeous Loop in the Marquette South system:

A decent size hill in So. Maine, 1200 feet above sea level and a 700' vertical climb from the trail head.

22.77 lbs after new drivetrain parts installed Friday. Newest changes; carbon Carnegie bars, Captain 2.2 rear tire, Purgatory 2.4 front tire, 21 tooth ti ISAR cog, Middleburn RS8 cranks with 34tooth HC ring, new chain, new IRD BB.

I rode it Friday, and today I took the picture and had another ride. I really like this bike. However, there are some things I wish were different, but I don't have the money or time to address them.

P.S. I think it looks dorky in this picture, but I don't know why...
