    Photo Friday: 9/25/09

Last week I went to the Southwest with my wife and a bunch of friends to go to the Single Speed World Championships in Durango. We landed in ABQ, then drove up to Santa Fe.

Wednesday, my buds and I did the Atalaya and Dale Ball trails right outside of town. We got really lost and did a little bit of hiking. RiderX, the best rider amongst us, rode down this section (and crashed at the bottom), so the rest of us walked:

Thursday, the owner of Mellow Velo Bikes shuttled all of us to the top of Big Tesuque. Aspen air smells so fresh:

Friday, we did a ride outside of Durango in Hermosa Creek. The day started off sunny and great, but about 10 minutes after passing the trailhead, the skies opened up on us. We were pelted with small hail, and most of us didn't have the proper clothing to finish the ride so we were shivering and soaked to the bone. It was miserable as we cowered under the trees and it didn't look like it would let up, so we decided to bail and climb back up to the start:

Saturday was the SSWC in Durango. My teammates and I had a grand ol' time:

Sunday, we took the gals that didn't do the race back to the course to try some of the trails. I think this one is called Horse Gulch. So many places to catch air on the way down:

Monday, we were back in Maryland. The Southwest rips!

    (Flickr set of our trip.)

All that is terrain that I know well. Atalaya to Dale Ball South to Dorothy Stewart is one of my favorite loops, but the Gulch now is my backyard. Thanks to the worlds I got new trail a few blocks from my home too.

I climbed up Atalaya one year well over 30 times...and I lived 70-miles away from it at the time. The allure of that climb kept calling me back. Glad you enjoyed the dirt down here. Durango is most definately on the radar, but Fanta Se is a bit off of it, which is surprising - the riding there is world class. Next time try out Chamisa to Sidewinder.......

Well.... I can say that now from the comfort of a soft cushy chair. The backed up hike-a-bikes were not "totally awesome" at the time. Plus, were you actually trying to do well? If so, that's the problem

I took hike-a-bike to it's logical extreme and went for a hike at Kenosha Pass on Saturday. Many others were riding, but it was more than I'd attempt with the family, particularly with the crowds.

You might as well plan to be there for the free beer. And there's even a few places for you to go dancing the night before if you'd like.

Haha it's all good. I'm not usually one to post non-bike pics but I haven't been off my bike for more than 2 days in about a year... I am currently about 8 days off.... driving me up a damn wall... I'm digging for things to do.

I rode Coal Bank to Molas (Pass Trail, Engineer Mt Trail, Colorado Trail) Friday, but failed to take any pictures. Trees are turning up there, but not at peak yet. First time I rode it that direction, I think it is better than the other way.

    Hopefully this photo works.

Me at cyclocross yesterday. Hutchinson piranha tires totally blow monkey balls on wet grass, so sketchy! :P

Also, racing is weird, I'm not sure I like it anymore.

    My Friday ride...

ended a little earlier than planned. I was out of town for a meeting and was able to sneak a ride in friday morning before heading home. I had been wondering where that annoying creaking sound I was hearingover the last couple of rides was coming from. I guess I know why cleaning and re-greasing my EBB didn't get rid of the sound. This is as close to an honest to goodness JRA as I have had. I can't blame the crew at Moots. I have had this post for 7 years. My Jones frame has such a low standover that I guess a 380mm post is just not long enough (only had about 60mm inserted, but bottom of post was level with bottom of TT). Going to have to replace with either an Erisken or Black Sheep 400mm version. Oh well.

Wow!! Did you get hurt in anyway? ( other than a broken heart) If not you are one lucky S.O.B. as that could of been very very ugly...Question (and maybe a dumb one at that) I'm not a Ti guy but no life time on that seatpost? Shoot 7 years, why not call up Moots and grab another one of those bad boys? Either way thanks for sharing and good luck..CF.

    I Really Can't Fault...

Moots. I almost certainly fell short of the minimum insertion, I had it at about 60mm. I called the folks at Eriksen today and ultimately ordered a 400mm Sweetpost from them. I am pretty confident that the sweetpost will fit the bill. Moots doesn't make anything longer than 380mm.
