    New fuel ex5 or 2018 ex8

I am getting ready to buy my first full suspension bike. My local shop carries trek, salsa and niner. I was gonna get a 19' ex5 with 29" wheels. I also saw a 18' ex8 for sale like a hour away with 27.5 plus wheels for the same price. I know the ex8 is spec'd better I just didn't know how obvious it would be to a non racer. My current bike is a Farley 9 converted to run 29x2.6 tires so I have no experience with full and how cheaper shocks compare to more expensive ones. Looking for some wisdom

I'd go with the 8: 12 speed Eagle, better suspension, dropper, better brakes: all considerable, consequential, and beneficial upgrades that will improve general riding.... IMO.

Personally, I prefer 29x2.3-2.4 tires rather than 27.5 +, but many do like +.

I'm a big fan of the Fuel EX, but not with plus wheels. The BB is already just a tiny bit on the low side for me, and the plus wheels pull it down a bit more.

See if they'll swap out some 29er wheels/tires. If so, it's a no brainer to go for the 8, for all the reasons Lone Rager posted above.
    Whining is not a strategy.

And the FEX8 will already have the fork set at 140mm, so when you put on 29er wheels it's set to really rip.

    the 2019 has a better spec'd build

I have the 8 in 29er build. love it.

If you wanted to go plus all you need to do is upgrade the fork air shaft to the 140mm and bam. you now have a 29er/27.5+ very cable do it all bike
