    My winter project

So here is my story... just started riding a 29er this past summer after a long layoff from mountain biking. I picked up a used 2008 Specialized comp 29er from craigslist and rode just about every weekend right into December. I absolutely loved the way the 29er rides. Now the snow is here and I needed to find something to do this winter, so I decided to do a major ride upgrade.

I just ordered a brand spankin new 2011 Niner Air 9 in vanna white and a 2011 Reba RLT fork for it. I will be posting pictures of the build over the next few weeks and look forward to getting some feedback from everyone. Can't wait to get started.

Here's my first update, the frame shipped and I should have it today or tomorrow. I also have on order red Salsa seat post clamp and skewers and a red King headset. Waiting at home already is a x9 rear deraleur, x9 shifter, brand new BB7 brakes(might get hydros later), SLX crankset and Thomson setback seat post. Pics to follow once the frame arrives.

I am going to add 2011 Reba Forks. I am leaning more towards white over black. What do you guys think?

Must say I do like a simple white frame and have always had a thing for Vanna. I say Black forks. Too much white aint right. Although could play well if everything else was black

@ seebee right now I have a new set of black Blunt rims and with the black tires I think the white forks stand out better and kind of tie in with the frame. It seems like black forks blend in with the wheels and get lost...at least thats how I see it. That is why right now I am about 85% committed to the white. I'll be ordering Monday.

I say black forks. The two whites are going to be a few shades off. Unless you're going to paint match.

    Getting Closer

Its been a while since I updated my build. I have been having a hard time getting forks. I ordered the RLT from one place and they were taking forever so I ordered from a second shop and they arrived with two huge scratches. Hoping to have the replacement here Monday and that nothing is wrong with it.

All the other parts are in my possession and here is what I have got done so far.

    Mine is ready to ride but it doesn't matter; there's three feet of snow on the trails;

Finally got some forks that weren't scratched

Getting closer to that sweet first ride. Forks came in yesterday and thankfully weren't scratched this time. Cut the tube tonight and did a trial fit.

This was my first attempt at cutting a steerer so I cut it a bit long on purpose. Now that I am more confident in my cutting abilities I will probably trim off another 10-15mm. Right now my spacers stack at 35mm.

Absolutely love the look and the feel while in the saddle. Hoping to get it out on the road by Sunday for a test ride. Trails are buried under to much snow right now for a proper ride

Glad you went with the white fork. It looks great. Don't worry about cutting the steerer. I always leave some steerer above the stem just in case at some time in the future I need to raise it. It also helps if you want to sell the fork in the future to have a longer steerer.

Sorry to hear that you're stuck in the snow like me but the bike looks great!

    Finally finished!!

It took a bit longer than I thought but its finally done. Took it out on the road for a test spin and it feels good. I just need to tweak the fit a little, thinking about trying an 11d sweep bar.

Just need the weather to cooperate for a few days so I can get it out in the dirt.
