    My first MTB

Just received my MTB today (Focus Black Forest 29er 1.0 with full XT). So freaking excited. I'm almost certain that I need to cut some of the steerer tube off and cut the handlebar a bit shorter. Does the positioning of the brake levers look ok from the pic? I'm mainly a road biker so I know almost nothing about MTB setup.

Bike looks great - but don't cut anything just yet. Take some time to try different angles, etc and definitely get to know your MTB guy at the LBS.

    Nice first ride.
Like green said, don't go chopping stuff up. I have about 1.5-2" of steer tube above my stem. It's not hurting anything and if I try to sell it, which I always seem to do, it's easier to sell.
Small ring in front makes it easier. Small ring in back makes it harder. That blows my mind.
