Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 on Bontrager Race Lite TLR's...

So I blew my XDX today, so I decided to try the Maxxis rear tire that came with my bike. They are not tubeless, but I thought I read somewhere that they will work anyway.
Being a newb to tubeless tires, I mounted the tire on my rims first (Bontrager rimstrips were already in there) and hit it with a co2 cartridge. It popped a few times and held air. I let the air out, opened up enough bead for a cup and a half of Stans, and hit it with another cartridge. It seemed okay, so I used a floor pump to get it up to 40 psi. It seems to be okay, I then put some soapy water on and found no leaks. I guess I should have used the soapy stuff to help seal the bead, but I didn't.
My question is, will just using the Stans to seal the bead be a no no, and should I decrease the pressure to my usual 29 in and go for a test ride?

If the tire is evenly seated around the rim, you should be fine. The soap helps with install, but not really for the final sealing. That's what the Stans is for.
