Looking for a wide carbon handlebar...

As mentioned in the subject heading, I'm looking for a wide carbon handle bar, preferably with little to no rise. My current bars are ~630 mm and naturally my ring fingers and pinkies want to hang off, so I'm thinking around 700mm would suffice. Please let me know what is out there! I've seen the salsa carbon but it's boarderline too narrow (660mm i think) for me.

    Thanks.

Edge Composites has a wide, flat bar. I saw it at Interbike. Looks really nice.

Nice! Thank you. I'm guessing it's gonna be pricey but let's see...

Not too bad. They have a 25 deg rise and a 0 deg rise, both for $168 on their website.

    Looks good to me!

    Anything else?

The trouble with having an open mind is that people will insist on trying to put things in it.

Syntace makes a very low rise (more of an upsweep than rise) carbon bar with 9 deg or 12 deg sweep and 680 width

Race Face makes some nice carbon bars.

Race Face Next XC - .75" rise, 9 rearward, 6 upward, 685mm and 195g. Running these on my EMD and love them!

If you have to get a riser bar, and want it to be flatter, flip your stem over (if it has some rise)

I ride these on my XC bike, even though they're designed for DH, and LOVE them=) Granted, they have a small rise but they're bulletproof, DH strong, and pretty light. 710mm wide, 202gr, 25mm rise...

Sunline V-1 25mm rise 685mm wide. Strong enough to use with bar ends if you Single speed.

I run the Syncros Bulk carbon on my Black Cat single speed and love them. They are 28" wide and have alloy inserts on the ends to protect them in crashes and what not.

Now, if only Sunline would make a V1 carbon in 29" width...

    Cheers,
    Andrew

artnshell, thanks for the link! those are a great deal!

mtnbiker72, I really like the look of those syntace bars. Have you used them and are they comfortable? Just wondering because I see they don't flatten out at the grips like most bars do.

Thanks for all the help, fellas!

I have not used them, only seen them on other bikes...I use a 17* Salsa (Aluminum) at 660mm and plan to get the carbon version this summer.

BTW-the flat Syntace is only 630mm wide

The daddy of them all you are looking for is the Edge Composites Sweep bar. No rise, 9 degrees of backsweep and 700mm of stem-wrenching width. I am gonna run one, but I am going to hack one down to around 640mm.

    Edge Composites

Only picture I could find. It is the middle handlebar.

I have found a 2011 Easton EC70 Wide flat bar that may be perfect for me, its under $100 online, I think I found it at Jensen or pricepoint.
Hardrock 29er, Niner EMD9, Cannondale F29, Camber Expert, 650b Nickel all gone.

I have this one, the EC70 Wide, and it is great. Mine was $90 at my LBS after my 10% discount. Easily the best deal in a wide flat carbon bar.

However, from everything I have heard the Edge bar is worth every penny and does an even better job of absorbing vibes.

I'm running an Easton Haven carbon 711 wide 19mm rise.

Enve has the 800mm wide DH bar now.

But wide and flat their is only the Niner and the Enve bars.

This is the bar I got--around a hundred bucks from Mtn high Cyclery. Lo rise version. 720 is perfect width for us tall guys. I think this is the best value in high end cf riser bars right now.

I just wish that someone would make a gloss carbon bar (for bling) bigger than 680mm and flat. The ritchy wcs is the closest in the looks department but 10deg is kinda steep and it's only 660mm making it too narrow for me. I am going to have to settle for the ec70 wide flat bar it looks like.

I realize this is an older post that's been brought back from the dead, but since nobody else has brought it up, I thought I'd throw this out there: what about the NINER carbon bar? 710mm, flat, 9 degree, gloss carbon comes in four different colors including a stealth moondust color. Check em out.

Thanks Steve, I went ahead and ordered your bar today.
Even though it didn't have the bling of carbon weave it was gloss and I went with the red lettering to match my Spesh in black and red. I did a LOT of research and I'm confident I made the right choice. I'll post up my observations once I get a couple rides in.

    Ragley Carnegies Carbon

Ragley Carnegies are 685mm. I've had these for about three weeks now and really dig the 25 degree backsweep and the width.

Thought I would post up now that I have my Niner bar on its VERY light. I still am a little leery it would hold up to a good bashing but so far so good!

Oh and I love the 5mm drop/rise that is built in the sweep is dead on too. I might have to cut it down from the 710mm that it is since the trails I ride are narrow. Might go to 680 or so...

Niner Carbon flat bar in red of course

Yeah, sorry been out riding to much... But it's been perfect. I ride hard and it has never led me to believe it would break or give out in any way. Hit a tree the other day and not even a scratch. (On the bars anyway... I'm another story.) It also has never "slipped" or creaked which also says something about the stock Spech stem. But I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Wifes bike will get one soon too... Just wish they weren't so expensive!

If 680mm is wide enough theres the crank bros. cobalt 11 bar. Its also a "flat" with 5mm rise like the niner, but cheaper.

680 for me is as narrow as I like to go. That said much depends on how wide your shoulders are and how you like to ride.

Syntace is now making the Vector carbon in a 740mm version that can be trimmed down to 700. This is in addition to the 680mm they already have. All versions will be available in a 9* sweep and the 12* that I am partial to. They have a slight rise, at 10mm.

To me the 10mm rise and 12* sweep are both just too much of a good thing. The 9* sweep is spot on and if it has ANY rise no more than 5 degrees. But again these things are all highly subjective which is why it is nice to have so many options now available in wider bars.

I have the 680mm Syntace Carbon Vector and I love it except for one thing... it's not wide enough. I have been searching for the 740mm version to replace it. BTW, 10mm and 12* sweep is perfection. The typical 9* sweep feels too "flat" to me.

    Because its cool!

Well besides the weight advantage it also has good vibration dampening properties that causes less fatigue in your hands/wrists. But really just 'cause its cool...
