Looking to lighten up and upgrade the Reliegh Talus

Hello all! Thanks for letting me into the group. I recently bought a Reliegh Talus and I don't care for it much, so I'm looking to lighten it up as much as possible and upgrade the components. The brakes also suck. Any ideas and thoughts on this bike and what's out there as far as lighter bolt on wheels and brakes that will actually stop the bike once the levers are squeezed? Thanks

The Talus is, from what I could find, a fairly cheap bike. You would spend more than you paid for it just on upgrading the wheels and brakes, and I mean the most cheap upgrades you can get.

Try taking it in to a LBS, introduce yourself , and let them have a crack at making the brakes work better, and maybe do something about your other concerns too.
    Be nice!
