    I stopped by WTB today...

...and the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hey, I don't suppose you guys would have some spare 29 inch Nanos getting in your way that you'd be happy to get rid of (cheap)?"

WTB guy: "Extras? Are you kidding? We can't make them fast enough. We make them in 500 tire lots and the next two lots are already committed to our distributors. No, we don't have any extras, and if you find some in a shop, buy 'em, or you may end up having to wait a while".

Me: "So I guess this could be something of a problem".

WTB guy: "Yes, but from our perspective, as far as problems go, it's a good one".

Me: "Are the rumors true about the 2.3 version? When will it be available?"

WTB: "Oh yeah, it's true. A fluffy 55mm casing. We figure every 29er owner will want some. It's a 2005 model, which means they should be available sometime in Oct or Nov of this year".

Me: "Hey, you should stop by the 29er board on mtbr.com and keep the gang informed. We're all starving for tidbits of information".

    WTB: "Yeah."

Thanks for the update. I had gotten similar info from W T B customer service a little while back.

This 29er business is all waiting for me. A Wily due end of July. Fatty tires in November. No choice but to be patient.

There meant for next summer, I'm affraid. But hey, as an influential person in the bike bizz in general and specifically the 29" sport, I bet they'll have some proto's for you to test before snow starts falling over your devine trails ;-)

    Good thing...

....I stocked up on Nano's while super go had them for $9 each. I know I have at least 6 that are still in the packaging. Hopefully those will last me till the new 2.3 epic's come out, at which point I plan on stocking up in a huge way, just in case they run out!

Yeah, he showed me a sample...small knobs, similar to Nanos, but "spikier" (using WTB's term) and a little more open pattern.

    If I could buy Nano's at $9...

...I'd buy 10. That was kinda what I was hoping for when I stopped by WTB. I figured if Supergo was selling them for $9, then WTB must be having trouble getting rid of them. Wrong again, Batman.

It could well be that shops can't get rid of their initial order, while so many shops are special ordering a single pair, that WTB can barely answer to demand.
I only have one kevlar Nano and a few steel left. None have worn out, but already 3 kevlars had to be thrown away. Perhaps replacement has a part in the big demand? If you like the Nano ride, what else are you gonna get to replace it?
