    Geology OT - Does anyone know what kind of rock this is?

    I'm no geologist but it looks like Navajo sandstone to me - GO RIDE ON IT AND FIND OUT.

    My wife is a geologist, she agrees that the upper layer is probably a sandstone (Navajo Sandstone gets really thick in some places) and the lower less cohesive layer is probably a mud or siltstone or shale.

    Where is it?

    It's probably a hard rock if you dismount your bike suddenly and land on it. Good traction on it probably.
