felt vs felt vs scott - best bang for buck

    Guys,

I need some advice on the best back for buck on these 3 choices...All are 29ers from LBS.

    1. 2009 Felt nine comp - $1000
    2009.feltracing.com/09-catalog/hardtail-mountain/nine-series/09-nine-comp.aspx

    2. 2011 Felt nine sport - $869
    feltbicycles.com/USA/2011/Mountain/Nine-Series/Nine%20Sport.aspx

    3. 2011 Scott scale Comp - $849
    scott-sports.com/us_en/product/10040/55529/218204

Assuming they all feel good. I see the 2009 Felt has the best components but I am nervous about buying a 2+ year old model. Should I be?

In your opinions, which would you choose?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ian

I bought a leftover 2010 felt 9 comp (same frame as '09 I think) last fall for $900 with Sram x-5 and 7 drivetrain, minute fork and Hayes hydros. I love the bike and would recomend it in a heartbeat, but a grand seems a little steep.

I wouldnt be worried about the 2yr old model. I test rode both the Nine Trail and Sport (same frame all the way up to the carbon/team for many years) and they FELT great (pun intended). I did briefly ride the Scott and didnt like the geometry for some reason, just didnt feel comfortable on the bike where as the Nine Series was spot on. Actually when I built my HT I looked for a bike with very similar geometries to the Nine's. I say go for it.

It seems like they keep lowering the MSRP on the Comp each year. When the 09 came out it was msrp at 1399. When the 10 came out it was msrp at 1149 and the 2011 is msrp at 949. I think they are adjusting the bike each year to chase the market. I am really leaning toward the 09 Felt as it has better components...

For 2011 they discontinued the Comp model and now have the Sport at $949, with the next model up running > $2,000. In any case, the components on the 2009 comp are higher level pretty much across the board than the 2011 Sport (and the Scott): fork, drivetrain, wheels, tires. So seems to me the 2009 model is definitely more bang for the buck than the 2011. However, would suggest you ride the Felt and Scott to see if there are any differences in fit/comfort.

Thanks for the advice, that is what I am also leaning toward. I am going to go ride the 09 Felt and assuming it feels good, I'll go with that one.
