Felt Nine 1 or Felt Nine 2 ??...

I made up my mind a few weeks ago about getting the new Felt Nine 2, however I found a very good deal for the Felt Nine 1 and now I am wondering which one should I get.

It's going to be my first MTB for over 15 years (I am a road cyclist), and I am not sure if it's worth spending the extra 1.100 euros for the Nine 1

I am planning to ride the new bike 4-5 days a week, doing 60-100km x day XC/Rally style rides.

I know all the upgrades I get on the Nine 1 (including the different frame) but will it really make a difference?

Has anyone riden one or both of these bikes?... Any thoughts about which bike should I get will be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!!

I see you have a Felt road bike but---
The 71.5 head tube angle is too steep for my riding. I would demo the bike on trails before buying. That ht angle with 46mm offset forks can be too twitchy on technical downhill runs. I would include two other bikes before making a move. Top pick would be a Trek Superfly 9.6 with a Motion Control DNA RLT damper upgrade to the fork(SID part). Good geo with 51mm offset fork and top damping carbon frame with the help of their road frame engineering group.
    Superfly 9.6 - Trek Bicycle
Second would be a Canyon Grand Canyon CF SL 6.9 or 7.9SE.

Between those two, go with the better spec'd 1 for sure. No question about it. Better performance that you can feel from the higher quality tires, wheels, fork, and lighter parts that probably drop weight by about 2 lbs. People would pay well over $1000 to drop that much weight off a top end bike.

HA is fine. 71d might have been the standard for 26" XC, but with bigger wheels 71d feels slacker. Not odd to see some bikes with 72d, like the Open O1. Felt's pushing into the MTB market harder lately, so I'm curious about how they ride. They picked up former Intense guy who had a big hand in making the Spider 29 Comp, who should tune their trail bikes to feel pretty good. XC bikes are a different story, and I can't predict how they would handle. They seem to have an open mind about carbon and how to tailor it, if their tri bike designs are to be an indication, but I for sure wouldn't expect Trek and Spec levels of refinement. I would pit them against a brand like Rocky Mtn to see how well thought out the ride feel is, but Rocky's from Canada and Felt's from SoCal, and I imagine that the local riding conditions are a huge influence on ride feel refinement.

Thank you eb1888. I think I won't be able to test the bike on trails before buying, although I'd love too! I am actually riding a borrowed 27,5 KTM Ultra and I have ridden it on difficult terrain and on technical runs and the bike behaves well and I feel very comfortable all of the time, however I can't find this bike geometry anywhere to compare it to the Felt.

Thanks for the bikes you recommend, I certainly like Trek and Canyon bikes... Superfly's HT angle is 69,6, the Canyon is 70 degrees, and Felt is 71,5... My height is 5' 7' so bike size will be a M. Such a difference in angles and considering its a 29er shouldn't have to be a problem, but I get what you saying if we also put into the equation the 5mm shorter offset forks the felt has vs Trek. I'd love to try both!

Thanks Varaxis! I heard some really good things about Felt's 2014 XC bikes and since I have been riding Felt carbon road and tri bikes for the last 4 years and I only have positive things to say about them, I thought I'd look into their Nine XC line for my next purchase.

Perhaps Trek, Spec (or Cannondale) levels of refinement are higher than Felt, but I believe the price-quality relation you get with Felt bikes is pretty good (or so it seems looking into this year Nine bikes) (and besides I get a pretty good cut off the price on the Nine 1 too from my local shop!), but I can't really say how they ride because I haven't tested them.
