    Is it possible

The sample at Interbike was maybe 2-3 mm wider than the Nano.

The Maxxis Ignitor 2.1 was at least as wide.

    Tight fit?

    Salsa,

would you mind telling us (after you mount it) how tight it fits onto the rim and what rim you're using?

Of course measurements would be great too.

    And...

    Thanks!

667g for a steel beaded WTB that's supposed to be bigger than it's predecessors? Not bad!

    help me out!

Quick somebody get some and post the specs, I don't want to ship them to Oz if they are not much wider than the old stuff. Buuuuuuuut, I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Yeah, specs! Without it, it's just a tease!

    Please specify rim used
    - carcass width (WTB says 50mm)
    - outer knob width (WTB says 55mm)

Speedgoat seems pretty reliable with weights, although they might have printed the lowest they found from a whole roll :-)

Surely OZ has a Maxxis distri? Or even WTB? Or is patience the game?

The Exi seems cool for group rides, to make the pace a bit harder and the tech stuff more fun.

    55/50 mm?

Now for my typical gripe: 55mm (I think that's the height) is 2.16". 50mm is 1.96. Wouldn't it make more sense to call this a 2.1"?

In other news, I have like 10 on order. So you can see how long I spent griping!

I'll probably be one of the first to cover myself with goo/blow something up trying to make them tubeless too. I'll post something about the results.

Walt, I always understood one was for carcass, and one for knob width. I have been wrong before, but that also makes sense, when used properly and it's really reflected in the tire. Looks like WTB likes to use the wides part of the knobs to indicate whether is narrow or wider than their other offerings, as do many brands.

    Yeah, but...

I'm fine with measuring to the outside of the knobs. But 55mm = 2.16". Not 2.3". A realistic size for the tires we have now (51mm) would be 2.0", of course, but c'est la vie.

I really like the metric system and I hate to see manufacturers baldly listing completely different sizes in imperial and metric units - it just sticks in my craw. 1"=25.4mm. Period. Gah!

Of course, I learned to deal with this problem years ago. I would have gone insane doing anything related to bikes quite quickly otherwise. When it comes to measurements of any kind, I think bikes may be the most backward industry on the face of the earth.

Not to hijack the thread. Big tire=good.

    need real tire clearance specs

I have been lurking for months/year and am about to actually order a custom HT. I need the specs for tire clearance on this tire, and others, prior to order. Can anyone measure a delivered production tire? What clearance is needed? Any more solid word on the Ritchey yet?

Also curious about the rolling resistance of an Exi compared to a Moto, probably slower than Nano.

    Big, wire, Stan's.......... Total happiness.

Perhaps being steel beaded will help your chances at Stan's. First let Walt give it a shot, if he can't get it to work, no-one does.

OT : Bram, our forum's racing miracle, is happily riding his Jones AcX tires on Stan's rims. No bead failure. Trimmed down tire for weight and speed.

Based on the tires I was at Interbike, yes. At least the casing is as big. The Exi's tread may be wider. But they were on different rims and I have no idea what the air pressure was.

Your LBS is probably browsing a catalogue that's updated each year, this is about the first week you can order these babies :-)
LBS should take a web-account with QBP, it's a good thing. Actually, it beats most non-bike porn content, hehe...

well, she isn't turning a wrench every day (but some days she does)....I call it my LBS, but it's actually REI. They do have a full shop and it's what I use as my LBS. She works all over the store, including the shop.

How many Exi's left?? I hope I get some before the batch runs out.
