Anyone running fenders and rack on a 29er??

Does anyone know if the cascadia planet bike fenders work on the karate monkey? Is clearance an issue with MTB tires? How about a rack with the fenders? Looks like Surly has it's own rack and has anyone experience with that rack? Is it sturdy?

i can vouch for the Surly racks. I had them on my Trucker and they were great...pretty heavy but it was definitely sturdy. I'll be paying attention because i just sold my trucker and am looking at putting a rack on my Monkey. Not sure how easy that is.

If I am not mistaken, the KM doesn't have rack mounts on the seat stays. However, I bought a seat clamp at REI with integrated rack mounts (for a different bike though).

If you are looking for a cheap solution, the Performance Access frame has rack mounts. I don't use fender's (yet).

All the Surly racks will function fine. The "Nice Rack" is great for touring and is less expensive than other high end racks (Tubus, Nitto).

Planet Bike makes 29er specific Cascadia fenders:

There are also touring fenders from multiple other companies that would work, as they are built for wide 700c tires, but they are often more expensive than the Planet Bike option.
Too many bikes, not enough time.

The Access has threaded fender mounts also. My Cascadia fenders are in the mail for my Access commuter.
You have no excuse for driving to work
(unless you don't have studded tires)
    (no excuse for that either)

Does anyone know of a company that ships those fenders to the UK? I can't find any info on the planet bike website.

Insane to pay double because of shipment from over the pond...

I'm going to try SKS Chromoplastic 50mm mudgards for hybrides.

CRC got them on promo now:

Coping with BB7 caliper might be a little bit tricky (especially at front) but worth trying. And need to find way of mountinh it at rear. Surprisingly Inbred got drillings on dropouts but no mounting points on seatstay/seat tube...

    Cheers!

Is the Cascadia fender the only option for 29ers with 2.1' + tires?
The SKS 50 mm looks too narrow...

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean how to mount fenders and racks on 29ers without dedicated fittings for these components in the frame? Or do you mean how to mount 29er specific clip-on mudguards and seat post racks etc?

Yeah- I should have been a bit more specific. Clip on / Seat post ones.

I don't have any experience with seat post racks.

However, I have 29er specific clip-on mudguards for my Kona Kahuna:
    - SKS Shockblade Front Black 29"
    - SKS X-Blade Rear Black 29", and
    - SKS X-Board Downtube Fender

I tested them in a race in June this year. Much better than nothing. That is, I'm very glad I used them, but I still got muddy all over. I think I will experiment with an extra X-Board or X-Mud on the seat tube as well. Fenders with stays are much better, but more difficut to mount on race bikes. Nor do they take as much abuse as clip-ons...
