    29er for cyclocross first timer

Hi guys (cause I haven''t seen a lady post, like forever),

I was planning on heading north to the Tampa area to enjoy the fine mountain biking in that part of Florida when I came across this notice for a cyclocross race..

Hmm, I still have a damn cold, I am 38, I haven''t ridden since mid December and I don''t own a cyclocross bike and I have only raced once in my life. Screw it, sign me up!

    So, a few questions..
    1. What web site would you send a first timer to?
    2. What bike would you recommend for this race (assume same wheelset and tires)
    a. Custom ti 29er mountain bike (search archive for photos) zoke shock xtr about 26lbs
    b. Surly Pacer-shimano 105 about 23 lbs

My only goals are to have fun and beat my friend Jim

put 32s on the pacer, remove the bottle cages, and kick his butt...
We don't need more to be thankful for; we just need to be more thankful.
