Do a search. Several - many - lots of threads about this.

Basically, you need a fork that is 30-35mm shorter to keep the frame geometry close to the same.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

    29 front and 26 rear

Working on piecing together a 29er front rigid fork on old frame with 26 rear. Hopefully will ride well. Anyone else done this or have any thoughts? Will post follow-up once ridden a bit. Sorry Scott, I was too lazy to use my own log-in.

There was a real nice looking Bontrager 29/26 posted here not too long ago.

The key is using the right fork.
