29" action shots.

For a few years there 'Photo Friday' threads were popular, with lots of great shots from a diverse group of contributors.

But the wheels seem to have fallen off of that bus, with fewer and fewer contributions and sometimes weeks will go by with none.

So I thought maybe we could keep a single thread going, for anyone (that means *you*) to contribute to as they see fit?

    I'll start:

    Your turn,

    MC

Since riding season is starting for a whole lot of you, I think we can sticky this and force you all to try to get some great shots for it!

As always, you share some great pictures. Thank you. I am broken right now and unable to ride. Your pictures help me look forward to the day I can throw a leg over my 29er again.

Really nice pictures ya'll have, living in Nebraska lacks some of the terrain pictured here! Anyway, killer pictures and rides, hope to get out of little old Nebraska this summer for some more treacherous riding conditions!

Ha ha!!! You are correct, blood red stains on the white rocks would look bad!!!Unfortunately I had lost my helmet earlier that day, at the first stop we did, it fell off my hands while I tried to adjust the strap. It went down a small rocky cliff......I think it is still resting there.

Julian Death March, April 14, 2012. Not so much action, as that feeling at the start of a race when you ask yourself: what am I doing? 30 degress and 24 with the windchill and snow at the start. 53 miles and 7k climbing. It was worse during some parts of the ride.

The guy in the lower left in shorts wins

Not sure it qualifies as "action", but I snapped this on my commute the other day from the seat of my Surly. I ride to work all winter, and this was the first day of sunshine in a looooooooooong time. I look at it and I see the reward that comes after literally months of suffering through the cold, dark winter. Could have stuck a handlebar or something in there to make it more obviously a bike photo, but to me, it's a bike photo.
Attached Thumbnails Attached Thumbnails 29" action shots.-picture2.jpg

Someone find the pictures of the dude table-topping what looked like 10-15 foot gaps on a purple yelli-screamy with a 100mm fork.

[e] Here's one. He's got some other 'action' photos on his website

Now that is a action shot.

Yea, those are action shots. I don't know about the rest of the stuff in this thread. I'm fortunate enough to have features like this on my local trails; I can attest to how fun the Yelli is when airborne.

I was fine, it was on a climb, pedal stuck into the sidewall and couldn't unclip and rolled over. Pretty slow motion. I just find the photo hilarious

Mikesee, all great shots! What gear are you riding with to take these pics? I do some ski/snowboard photography and want to move into mountain biking shooting now that I am getting into riding. Just curious what you drag along with you on rides. I'm betting a similar kit to what I ski with, minus maybe some of the longer lenses.

No worries, and thank you! The 7D is my go to sports camera due to its speed, 1.6x crop factor and weather sealing. And probably what I will start to carry when mtn biking. To date, I have been carrying a Nikon AW100 P&S. Once I get through my first road century in June, I will begin spending more time on the mtn bike, and hopefully some more time behind the camera while mtn biking. Loving this thread for ideas!

    Yep. She's a Labradoodle.
She's also an amazing trail dog! She's very well behaved/trained. She doesn't chase after other dogs or people or wildlife and knows to stay out of the way.
And, she can haul ass when the trail points down!

I know this isn't a photo but I think this still fits with the theme of this thread.
Let me know if it doesn't belong and I'll remove it.

This is a quick slap-bang edit from my ride yesterday.
    Enjoy!

First one is: Gorrick 100 yesterday. Finished 6th in the very strong field. Well happy with it.... but I need a 29er fully.... my back hurts!

Second one is from last week XC race.

Looking at that picture, I thought he was going OTB. But rest of pictures proved me otherwise. It's probably me being noob still but considering angle of fork and other things, it sure looked like the next picture would have been OTB.

Have been mtb riding for many years but finally entered my 1st race last weekend. Finished 13th in the Cat 2 Sport 50+ category although I'm sure I would have been top ten had it not been for some bad cramping issues in my quads during the 2nd half of the race. I'm hooked ... can't wait for my next race! Would guess over 90% of the overall participants in the race were on 29ers

hahaha I need to get those darn shoes for my noobness.

It looked like it would be ok if he lift up his front but somehow the way the picture looked like to me was that front was going to drop much faster(What do I know. It's a picture, I can't tell how it was moving) Basically OTB.

Actually, I'd be curious to know some of the settings that you used for those shots as well - shutter speed mostly.

Would give me a starting point for taking some pics of my own.

    Once again, great work.

    Cheers,

    J

I think this is the only "action" shot i have. Couple years ago, on Placer to Castle creek rider, outside Ketchum, ID. Great 29er territory.

I still ride that old Sugar for now. It has wider bars and a bigger front tire at this point, and upgraded brakes, and better ratioed cassette, etc.

Filmed the move which is actually pretty simple - manual on the rock face at about 3:00
