    2017 Trek X-Caliber 7 29er Tire Upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my Trek X-Caliber 7's tires. The tread is gone on the Bontrager's that it came with. I've read that I can go 29x2.2 on the rear, has anyone been able to go 29x2.4 on the front? If not what's the maximum size?

Looking at the Continental Mountain Kings, one of the guys has them in our group on his Cannondale and they hold up well and give good grip on the trails where we ride where my Bontragers just slip.

    Thanks

Do you know the rim's inner diameter? It might be stamped on the rim somewhere.

I tried to locate any specs on your wheels but I couldn't find anything. This thread may get more answers if mods move it to the wheels/tires section.

I have 2015 and am running a 2.5 breakout in the front and a 2.4 trail boss in the rear. I am 1x and am running asym i29 wheels.

My buddy has some Bontrager 2.3s on his X-Cal with plenty of room left.

Thanks, still need to check out the rims and see if there are any markings. But the info you guys are providing is helpful.

I would also point out that Bontrager makes some more aggressive tires than the ones that come stock on your bike and with their return policy makes them easy to figure out the best setup for you. The XR4/F/2.4 and XR3/R/2.3 worked much better than the XR2's that came stock on my 17 Superfly, YMMV.

The 29x2.4s and 29x2.2's fit. I've had a couple of rides and so far the Continental Mountain Kings (non-black chili) are holding up. I went with the steel bead and I'm running tubes.
