    I don't consider this price range to be good value for a ht when you are getting an aluminum frame as part of the mix. The lack of compliance of aluminum is a significant handling characteristic. You get all that with a $1k- $1.5K bike. Carbon frames can be compliant or fully stiff. But a carbon frame engineered for compliance is a different class of bike then any aluminum bike. If you work a discount a Superfly 9.6 is close to or under $2k. The compliance and resulting fun hitting rocks going downhill puts it more than a ht with trail feel you lose with a fs. The fork will benefit from a damper upgrade to SID Motion Control DNA RLT(170 list) This is a new frame with new geo, not carry over.

    Scott has more limited tire clearance between the chainstays, 68.5mm unless it has been changed for 14. The Superfly has close to 80mm. Trek is using their road bike carbon engineering team on this frame. You can feel the benefit of those guys being involved.

    i voted highball, but for the money you're paying new for a lower end build, you could have a year old baller-rig for less.

    Not trying to steer you either way, just don't forget the used option. Both of those bikes are awesome, I just like the highball a little more.

    Same here, highball looks like the best option for you but you really can't got wrong with stumpy either. I would also take a look at the used market if I were you. There some pretty good deals every now and then.

    Since I ride a Highball.....that is my choice.

    Been on it for the last year. Have only run it as a singlespeed...but like the idea that I can put gears on it if I choose to do so.

    I voted HB only because I own one with more than 1500 miles on it. And it has treated me very good.

    The other bike in the poll I know nothing about.
