Glad to see that they revised the cable routing. That was my only true complaint w/my 'fish.

I'd like to see them with an X01 build.

The Horsethief 1 will be equipped with X01.

The only Spearfish to rock 1x11 is the top-of-the-line XX1 build.

I like the Spearfish in the XX1 config and the new cable routing looks much better.

Thanks. I see that now. XO1 is 1x11 as well.

Old Horsetheif single pivot. New horsetheif split pivot.

They are likely completely different bikes, why keep the name?

What's the deal with "split pivot"? To me it looks like Trek's single pivot with ABP. Am I missing something?

They're close to the same thing. I think DW sued Trek over it in 2007, but I'm not sure who won that one.

Edit: Seems like it's still going on: Trek says Weagle's patents invalid; trial date set | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

I've ridden a couple Split Pivot bikes (Devinci Atlas and Dixon) and I liked the feel. Good move from Salsa, IMO.

I'm posting to subscribe to the thread. I'm considering a full suspension trail bike and the new Horsethief interests me. I tried to find some geometry information but there is none. Does anyone have any idea of chain stay length and head angle?

    Also, the press release quotes:

"Geometry control: Split Pivot's optimized wheel link placement results in anti-squat properties that allow the bike to ride higher under powered acceleration."

I've owned bikes with for example VPP which has anti-squat designed in. This is still a single pivot design and would like to understand what it's "anti-squat properties" are.
The trouble with having an open mind is that people will insist on trying to put things in it.

That flex stay made out of aluminum always looked sketchy... This looks much better.

Even uses a 51mm offset fork like Trek.

I wonder if the rear triangle can be retrofitted to my 2011 spearfish.

Salsa Cycles Spearfish And Horsethief ? First Look - BikeRadar

17.2" stays with half degree slacker angles on both models. New Horsethief sounds like a ripper!

I'm very interested in these bikes. Probably the Spearfish, since its still a LOT more travel than I usually ride. But can someone explain to me why these bikes use the BB92? What does it get me? I do NOT want to be chasing squeaky BB issues, ever.
