2012 Kona hei hei - good bike,?

I'm considering picking up a used one of these for the wife. She's a beginner/intermediate coming off a 29er hard tail she's been riding for the past two years. Riding is rocky New England singletrack. Is a 2012 Kona Hei Hei a decent bike for this?

Depends on the price, its a verry old bike and hard to get spare parts.

Id like to think it should be almost free before you pick it up.

Depends on what she needs in a bike too. The Hei Hei has always been a shorter travel, sort-of-racey bike. Being from 2012 the geometry is dated, it has a 70 degree head angle which in today's terms is steep. I'd be very careful about paying too much especially without knowing the maintenance history of the suspension. But hey for $400 or less (bbb values) it might hit the sweet spot.

What 29 hardtail? If it was one with a Suntour fork it wasn't a real mt bike hardtail. It was a bike path smooth trail bike. A light carbon hardtail with a decent fork and wide rims with 2.6 tires would be night and day better. A low end heavy fs bike won't be as fun.

Got it for well under 400. Not too concerned with dated geo. Very little use - still has original tires with little wear. Looks like a great find!

LOL at suggesting a $3,000 hardtail. You're off by a zero on the price point.

If your wife can have fun on that bike and enjoys riding it with you I'm totally envious.
