2.50 tire on 46m ID trek stache 7

I purchased a 2020 trek stache 7 after my previous trek bike was stolen. I ride 60% gravel and 40% trail. This bike come with a 3.0 tire but want to step it down to a 2.50 if I can. Main reason is we are looking to ride the c/o canal and the train that takes us up has a train car for bikes but only goes up to a 2.50 tire to hang on the rack.

We are getting into more bike packing and think the 2.50 tires will help a little more on the gravel trails and paved but will still hold well on the trails when I venture out. Looking at the maxxis minion dhf tires.

I cant seem to find anyone doing this. Will a 29x2.50 fit on a 46mm ID rim. most post are saying max 30mm ID. If it will fit what are the pros and cons to doing this. Not trying to buy new rims and tires if possible.

I don't see why it would not work. That rim seems a bit wide for that tire, but not impossible.

It will work for what you are wanting to do with it. Honesty you would have been better off getting a Trek 1120 vs the Stache. The tires more than likely will not have the desired profile but they will work.

Usually when dropping down tire size on the Stache you will want to up the travel to around 140 to bring the BB back up. Trek recommended this.
    Too Many .

I'd stick with your existing tires and deflate them some or all to go into the racks.
If you want to try a smaller tire the Bontrager XR2 2.6 has a more rounded profile and is high volume. Should work on that rim.
