    '05 X caliber

Hello. I’m new to this site. I have a question regarding ’05 Gary Fisher X Caliber. I am planning on purchasing one in the near future but I’m not sure what size I should get. I have taken the 17.5” medium size for a test ride. Unfortunately I won’t be able to test ride the small 15.5”. I am 5’5” tall and my inseam is about 30”. When I stand over the 17.5” X caliber I have little clearance. The GF website shows that stand over height of 17.5” X cal is 29.9” and for 15.5” bike is 28.9”. Also the effective top tube length on 17.5” is 24” and for 15.5” is 32.3”.

This is my first time purchasing a higher end bike and I’m also I am somewhat new to serious mountain biking. I would appreciate any helpful information from you. Thanks.

    Apple is correct...

...at 5'5", you'd probably be better off with a small.

    .
If you're having issues with stand over and you're not commited to a hard tail, the sugars with the drop top tube are very standover friendly. Also not much heavier that the X-cal I'm afraid (the new fisher hardtails are suprisingly, um, plump).
