    Velocity P35 650b ERD

so velocity quote it as 560mm...i thought this seemed small as its not that deep of a rim, so i measured the ERD in 5 different places on the rim and got 565mm as 4 and one spot, where the nipple didnt seem to want to sit as deep as the others (? a burr ? will need to look at that...) as 567mm...

any of you guys found that much of a discrepancy? im used to finding 2mm or so but 5mm?!

    Millimeters are shorter in Australia

The published Effective Rim Diameter (ERD) has worked for me building my own 650b Blunt and P35 wheels, and 26 inch wheels previously.

I do cheat and make wheel building easier by using 16mm nipples, which look better on a mountain bike IMO, more 'moto'. And the longer nipples make it easy to use average spoke length 3x with equally flanged Hadley hubs. The 4mm longer nipples than common do add a few grams, but who's counting?

I've never tried to measure ERD. I see that wheel builder blogs recommend doing so. I can see the need if using short 12mm nipples and shorter spokes on one side.

No spoke related problem has surfaced in 3 years on Velocity rims with sometimes very heavy hit use under my 200+ ride weight.

i usually build with alloy nips, so am keen to get full thread/nipple interface or it will be used to *some* difference from manufacturers specs...but 5,mm seems pretty rough!....just wondered if others had found the same, or it has changed or something? anyways....
