Opinions on Raleigh Redux 2 rigid

I'm thinking about getting one of these for blasting around town and to use as sort of an adult BMX bike, and throw some off road tires on it for the trails. The fork is SPF aluminum. Now I don't know much about SPF alloys but it sounds like it may not be as stiff as regular aluminum. With the corporate discount it costs $390. What do you guys think?

This is one of my favorite bike models, and I love that Raleigh. The rigid fork and wide tires are what every bike brand should be putting in front to new riders who aren't sure what they want other than that they want a bike. I doubt there is anything special about the aluminum though.
