    New Switchback 27.5 frames?
Got a teaser e-mail with a few frame shots, good looking frames. Anyone in here know anything on them yet like travel, materials, etc?

    Hi.

I am the distributor for Switchback in UK/Europe.
Here some info on the frames, bikes and company:
    29er | 27.5 | Full-Suspension - Switchback Bikes

    Hope that helps.

The Unveil looks like a Kona Satori front triangle with a FSR - (just like the now defunct hammerhead/thumper brand) - which likely works very well for intended purpose. I have a Satori and it rips - plain and simple - the Satori has shorter chainstays and Kona's design vs the FSR design - but they are "similar" - i believe the rear axl pivot placement is the primary difference in the setup.

The Reveal 7 looks pretty nice... it will need to be proven on the trails as pricewise it doesnt have any distinct advantages over many hot new 275 bikes on the market

Dont take my musings as a negative - I like the small independent business following a passion - and the bikes look decent / intriguing... hope it all works out for them

    Reveal7 Frames & Prototype FSR 27.5 Frame
Hey guys....totally missed this thread until now. Great questions/feedback.

The Reveal 7 frames are in production w/ current ready-to-ship (to us) ETA of first week of April. We have been fortunate enough to pre-sell almost all the frames.
There are 2 Med frames still available....and I can honor the pre-sell price on those at $1,799 ($2,299 MSRP)

    27.5 | Full-Suspension - Switchback Bikes

We are also working on a 27.5 version of the "Thumper" frames that will be produced under the Switchback Brand.
    http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/tw...ad-899817.html
    http://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/ha...ts-817296.html
There is still a good amount of inventory left on the Thumper frames and Switchback is able to honor the warranty on them, per the Manufacturer, so we are running w/ those vs investing in a production run Branded Switchback at this time.

Here's a thread someone started asking whether "switchback will make it" a lot of good info about what Switchback is up to. Feel free to check that out as well http://forums.mtbr.com/general-discu...ke-889589.html

Here is a spy photo of the first 27.5 "Thumper" prototype in existence:

    What Color
Working on a color for the Sample Prototype frames. Anyone want to chime in w/ suggestions? I'm all ears!

    Guidelines:
    Paint, not Anodized
One-color, like the artwork file attached
    One-color decals

I believe a good orange color would be killer -

in males - 18-40, outside of your traditional black and white, Orange has become the most searched color for new vehicles. This from the auto industry - which explains why Toyotas new TRD rpo line is Orange, and Subaru's hottest new color in sales is the orange crosstek xv... i would presume there is a strong link btw mtb'ers and this auto market segment

plus a good orange is a rippin looking color - i.e. solo, tracer, burner, slash...

and than - there's black... a cant go wrong color. maybe offer a graphics/sticker custom option for those that want a unique color?

Another option would be be to switch the Black and Blue between the frame and the logo.

This bike might go on my short list, do you have an estimated release date and price range?

@betorac kinda like this but with Blk decals?

If we could get the alloy frame to production, earliest availability would be Fall 2014. Will have firm pricing once I can get the Prototypes here, but will come in at a lower price point than the "big brands"

If you are referring to the Carbon frame...they are in production & ETA from the manufacturer is currently the 1st week of April
We have a few still available....$1,799 shipped (in the US) is the pre-book price on them

Feel free to hit me direct if you have more questions as well

    Thanks, Scott

That actually looks pretty sweet. I wonder if Black decals would "pop" more, and the black would also match the shock. Just a thought.

Yes my questions were regarding the allow version.

I found images of the 1st sample/prototype frame we received when we were operating under the Hammerhead Brand Name. Here are some images. It wasn't intentional, but when the frame arrived I realized we essentially did a generic "BEER" can graphic/paint version for the frame :)

I would take one if it was a Medium.

I looked at the Geo for the Unveal 7 on your website, are those accurate or are they the old Thumper 29er Geometry? They look about right but the Standover caught me off guard. 32.4" for a Medium?

I am getting a couple of XLs built....could have them build another Med....typical manufacturing time is 30-45 days....timing would work good w/ when the shock/forks are available from SRAM
It is the correct chart.....very possible I made a mistake on standover....32.4 is a lot for a Med...I will double check and correct.

Yep, it's wrong...good catch...the standovers listed on the Unveil7 Geo chart are the standovers of the Thumper frames.

I'll get it corrected...and upload the CAD GEO PDF here in case anyone wants to get GEO paralysis by analysis :)

If any other folks are with or interested in Switchback's "field-test" group on the Unveil7, send me a private message to compare notes. I think I'm doing a Size Large, Monarch+, Pike, SLX, Reverb build.

It might be reassuring for some to know that they aren't the only folks getting a prototype.

I really like Switchback Blue, but the two-tone neon fade into black on the XX1 blog post is pretty rad as well.

Part of the reason I want a raw proto is to paint it eventually, but raw creates more of a buzz when people ask "what kinda bike is that?"

On the graphics front, Scott have you toyed with make the Switchback lettering "wrap" the downtube, for instance the "S" on one side would actually meet the top of the "K" on the other side?
  • 03-27-2014

Yeah I like that two-color paint as well.....bumps the price up a bit though, so have to factor things like that in

Good point on a Raw Proto

Oh wow, that sounds cool....you have any graphic mock-up skills? Be cool to "see" that idea.

Just an FYI for everyone interested in Switchback's 650b bikes,

If you have any questions about the Unveil7 150mm frames utilizing the Horst Link setup similar to the Unveil9 and Hammerhead Thumper, I'd be happy to honestly answer any questions.

I've been riding mine for about a week now (rode 5 days out of 7 last week). Mostly east coast rocky singletrack, a few pretty fast high speed drops, some nice 3ft and 4ft drops to flat and wayyyy too much climbing for liking.

I've had the luxury of riding many other 140-160mm 650b AM bikes, so for the most part I'm able to compare and contrast some different suspension designs to the one used on the Unveil7.

Hoping to get some decent pictures in the coming weeks.

    27.5+ Unveil9
A really interesting idea from current Thumper/Unveil9 owners via this thread http://forums.mtbr.com/custom-builde...l#post11673798
Sharing here because it really has my interest peaked in a 27.5+ version of the Unveil9. Might be a fun experiment to see if it is feasible, thought I'd bring y'all along for the ride :)

The idea originated from @PHeller and @06HokieMTB

It started from @PHeller's post and kind of worked it's way from there.
"I found out something interesting today.
Then Unveil7 will fit a 29x2.20 tire! Yes, a 650b bike that can be ridden as a 29er. Granted it'll raise the BB a fair amount, but for my rocky area this may not be the bad thing.
I'd like a Pike 29 either way so I could run 275x3.0 tires, which won't happen with the 275 Pike."

    From @06HokieMTB:
"keep in mind that 650b+ (or, the WTB 2.8, that is) is a slightly smaller diameter than that of a true 29er tire. This moves the widest spot of the tire farther back into the frame, where there is likely to be more clearance. My WTB 2.8 has fit fine on the two 29er's that I've tried it on.
Ya know what? I've got a 2012 Kona Satori sitting in my garage. Sounds like I should do the Thumper/Unveil9 guys a favor and do a test fit with my 12x142, WTB 2.8/Blunt 35 650b+ rear wheel?
This is a M/L 2012 Kona Satori and a WTB Trailblazer 2.8 on a 27.5 Velocity Blunt 35 (29.5mm internal width) rim. Doubt a Dually (39mm internal) would fit. My old 650b conversion had less clearance on the drive side and I had no problems in CO."

@06HokieMTB used a Satori to test the 27.5+ possibility because the rear triangle clearance is very similar to the Unveil9.

A great chart @06HokieMTB made to show some 27.5+ rim/tire measurements if anyone would like to use (I got permission to share) in case a 29er to 27.5+ experiment peaks your interest
    Attachment 952103

Here is the Unveil9 rear triangle CAD drawing, looks like 27.5+ should work with a 35mm-40mm wide rim and the WTB Trailblazer 27.5+ x 2.8 tire. That is the configuration I plan to use.
    Attachment 952104

Sooo...here we are....a 27.5+ experiment. There is a shipment of Unveil9 frames due to arrive on Monday....I am going to build one up to test the theory.

    Stay tuned....Cheers!
