Looking to build my first mtb, is this frame overkill

So Iíve been looking though forums and blogs for about a week now trying to get an idea of what I want. I think Iíve settled on a SS rigid bike. While looking though posts and photos of builds I keep finding myself drawn to the chumba frames (stella). As this will be my first venture into building a mountain bike the will be used for beginner trail riding, is this frame overkill at almost 1300$.?
I like the steel frame, and sliding dropouts since Iím planning on riding single speed and donít want extra hardware hanging on bike.
Iíve looked at the surly SS options and also kinda like jabberwacky frame.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
also Iím 6í 240lbs but Iíve never been measured for a bike. Rode mostly bmx till recently so Iím used to more vertical fork geometry which seems fading away.

IMO, that's nuts price for a steel frame. Kona sells steel frames with sliding dropouts for around $500. If you want a 27.5, take a look at the Explosif frame.

Ok Iím not crazy then lol. I actually have been looking at the Kona unit since it comes as a ss. Iím not very good at comparing geometry yet to know what an inch here and there will do. How does the unit and the Explosif match up?

I can't speak from experience. I think I've been on a Unit once, years ago. It's a 29er, not a 27.5, so be aware of that. All the Geo specs are listed on the website, so you could easily compare, but it really depends on how your body will fit. If you can, seek at the closest Kona dealer(s) and see what they have in the shop. Personally, I love my Explosif, but I'm not running it SS.

I stand corrected. The Unit is a 27.5+.

At 6' 240lbs and rigid, 29 or 29+ would be my suggestion.
