I talked to the Trek guys at their demo truck about 2 months ago about this. They said Trek completed a redesign of the frame, making it like the Fuel EX's with the EVO link and ABP rear pivot, and then decided to NOT produce it because their perceived lack of demand for this nitch product.

i had heard they were not able to complete the new design due to lack of engineering time or something like that in time for 2009 model but that it would be out in 2010. but thats just hearsay as well.

I'm really surprised that Trek did this frame in the first place. I'm glad they did though as I like mine. I want the 18.5" frame though... the one size they skipped.

If I was to bet on this, I'd bet they don't do the TF 69er again at all... it will be interesting to see what happens.
I read that on the internet.

Simply 69er became a 29er that's an answer and it will appear soon. They lenghtened the swing arm and stiffened it a bit. Fuel Ex 29er- go for it

Ahhhh, the infamous DC strikes at the heart of the 69er thread!

That would be very interesting to see a Fuel EX 29. I was thinking it would be a Top Fuel 29. It's anyone's guess I suppose, unless you have insider info!
I read that on the internet.

Talked to a Trek rep today. No 69ers for 2010. Also, no more 69 17.5" fuel warranty frames are left.
So, what is Mr Travis Brown riding with the lack of 69ers for the new year???

apparently, he was massively instrumental in the development of the superfly100, so maybe T-Brown is on a 29er from now on? id like to think that trek wouldn't put all there eggs in one basket, ie Trek 29ers, like the 29er top fuel rumour, maybe do a couple of 650b's.......

you mean this T.Brown riding a stealth looking superfly100, while still wearing his 69er kit?

DC, are all of your 1476 posts the same?

It will be a real shame if Trek stop making 69ers. They are just so much fun.

You sure that's him? Last time I saw a pic or vid of him he had a Grizzly Adams beard that probably snagged in the wheel occassionally.

this was the associated caption from that pic, which was a month after the race video:

"A mud speckled Travis Brown (Trek) – riding what appears to be possibly the new 2010 Gary Fisher Superfly 100 carbon long travel 29er – eyes the top of the final steep climb of the day...."

plus, that beard would be crazy itchy

Travis Brown is the prototype test pilot for all Trek, Bontrager, and Gary Fisher MTB products as you can see by the previously posted photo. He was racing a Fuel EX at the Breck Epic by the looks of the other photos I've seen recently.

I guess I should be happy they aren't making a new Fuel 69er or I'd lust after it! I'm happy with my TF 69er anyway.
