    Derby wheel builds?

What rims(hd, xc, dh), hubs, and spokes did you use? How hard are you on your equipment? How are your wheels holding up?

King hubs, original layup front, HD rear, Pillar 1420 aero spokes, alloy nips

    I'm abusive to my equipment.

Holding up great. Originally had DT comp spokes but started breaking them consistently so relaced both with the bladed spokes. Great so far.

So, not dinging up the Derby's? What tire (and size) and pressure por favor. I live in the land of rocks as well.

I'm using Pillar 1420's that are very similar to CX-Rays. Liking them so far

Plenty of people doing it. I, like Mestapho, used a different but similarly light gauge spoke and it's a great setup....you really don't need to worry about wheel stiffness so much with the rims themselves being SOOOO stout. I think the lighter gauge spokes probably improve the ride quality a bit, but that's merely an educated guess... I haven't ridden any Derbys built with standard 14ga spokes, and won't be using them on my own future builds either. Some of the light gauge spokes available, CX rays included, have really phenomenal fatigue strength, so properly built it makes for a durable reliable wheel with incredible ride quality.

Chris King hubs, DT Revo spokes, aluminum nipples. No big huckin' but 210 lbs fully geared on fast and technical terrain and I'm not always very good at picking the smoothest line down. Regularly dinging and knocking wheelsets out of true in the past (Crossmax SX, Easton Haven Aluminum, Sun Ringle Charger Pro's).

Other than a big branch that got sucked into the spokes last Winter, I have not had to touch this wheelset. By the way, even with 7 or 8 spokes blown out on the back wheel I was able to ride out the last 4 or 5 miles without issues.
