    Boost Crankset

Does anyone know or know how I can find out if my 2017 Giant Trance 2 has a boost crankset on it? The Giant website just says SLX crankset not specific, the Giant dealer in El Paso doesn’t know. Looking at upgrading but not sure whether to get the boost or non boost. I know the wheels are boost.

I think you just need to look at the rear hub and see if it's boost or not. I think the bike has a boost rear hub.

The rear hub is definitely boost. I’m not for sure that the cranks must be. The specs on the bike do not specifically say boost. I would think it would be easier just to shim the cranks or make the chainring offset with a boost.

    the chainline

will tell if the crankset is boost or not. Look on the shimano website and see if they even offer a boost crankset, they should also offer up the chainiline info. then just go measure the chainline on the frame.

    Jim,

Thank you for the reply. Went on Shimano’s web page and they do offer a boost and my cranks are the boost cranks. The Giant website specs for my bike didn’t state boost (only the 2019 mentioned boost) but after visiting the Shimano site and looking at the part number on my cranks they are. Also, found a very simple web page that explained the whole boost theory which helped. Below is the web page if anyone is interested:
