    best hardtail under $500

so i am getting a full squish trance 29er but i also have friends come ride with and sometimes i just like to switch things up a bit and ride a different bike too. I want to get a cheap 27.5 hard tail..

i am looking for the ability to eventually swap the 3x front gear for a 1x oval chainring up front so would like compatibility to do that

im at a toss up between

    Marin Bolinas Ridge 1 T

    or

    GT agreesor

I wouldn't buy a new bike under $500, I'd buy a used one with better components.
    Rigid SS 29er
    SS 29+
    Fat Lefty
    SS cyclocross
    Full Sus 29er (Yuck)

Stop asking how much it weighs and just go ride it.

Those are both bikes pretending to be mountain bikes.

Since its not for you id keep an eye on the used marketplace. If buying new is the only option the Giant Talon is right at 550. Unless your greenway or gravel road riding im not sure id buy either of those bikes.

I was in the same boat for myself. Wife didnt want me spending much. The Giant Talon 3 was the cheapest bike i could find new that seemed borderline acceptable. Luckily I found a Diamondback Line used for $450. In the process now of saving the the Trance 3 27.5 but this has been decent enough for right now. Glad i didnt buy new in my situation. I understand how hard it is to find a used bike in your size with the specs youd like.

You can get a brand new diamondback hook for $560 right now on the diamondback website with a corporate account (an email to them should get you one).

The Diamondback overdrive 29 1 is cheaper but its a 29er and out of stock.

The corporate discount is different for every bike. Some its marginal, others its nearly 50%. and its changes all the time.
