    2015 Trance Advanced 27.5 2 vs 2014 Trance SX 27.5

Trying to decide between a 2014 Trance sx 27.5 or a Trance Advance 2 27.5. Bought a 2014 sx for $2400 but they delivered a large frame and the LBS can't get a medium which is what I want.need. I am only 5"9" on best day. The LBS offered a 2015 Trance Advance 2 for $2900. Debating if it is worth the extra $500. Looks like the SX has a better component list and maybe a better Fox shock set up. But the Advance 2 components look decent. Wondering how the specific model of RockShock compares to the Fox. Also, not overly familiar with the Avid brakes.

Is a Trance Advance 2 with a carbon frame really $500 better performance and maybe resale later?

I have mostly been renting 29" hardtails but demoed a 27.5 Anthem last week Trek full suspension and have been snake bitten by full suspension 27.5" ride.

You are correct in the SX having a better build. Entry-level carbon bikes tend to be spec'd to meet a price point.

Can they weigh them? Be nice to know if the carbon is significantly lighter.

I have Fox and RS, Deore and Avid brakes on my two bikes. Prefer the Fox over Sektor Gold (stiffer, variable-floor lockout) and the Avids over Deore (easier single-finger operation).

The SX is also 1* steeper HTA. That may be good or may be bad, depending on how/where you ride.

$2400 for the SX sure was a great hookup, bummer it didn't work out.

Are you saying they can get you a 2014 SX, or did you mean 2015 SX?
If you don't really need the extra travel of the SX, the Adv2 or Trance1 or even AnthemSX might be your best choices.

I ordered a medium 2014 SX but a large was shipped and evidently they cannot get another 2014 sx. The 2015 SX is a lot more than $2400. They are offering 2015 Adv 2 for $2900 but the components on the SX seem a lot better. At 5'9" the large frame feels like I am sitting on it, more like a 29nr were the other medium 27.5 felt more compact. The large may work but I don't want to ride on trails and then decide I don't want it. Doesn't seem fair to the LBS if they get stuck with it and have to sell it as used. Thought about keeping the large SX and trying to sell it for like $2900-3k and then waiting for the next deal to come along.

I feel a difference between a medium and large frame but how much is in my head? Seems like less than a 1.5 inch difference in measurements across most aspects of the bike.

It can be hard to tell without some seat time, but 1.5" is a lot. I'm 5'10" if I stand up reaaaal tall, and I could fit M or L.

Some bikes run small (I want to say Santa Cruz, but don't quote me).

If you can ride it around a bit, see what you think. 24.4 top tube (SX L) is in between my AMHT's med/large, so it might be fine. Standover looks reasonable at 30.3"

    2015 Trance Advanced 27.5 2 vs2014 Trance SX 27.5

I've ridden quite a few bikes over the past 2 years, including the 27.5 anthem, trance, 29" trance and 2014 trance advanced SX (27.5).

I'm not a great rider but I did get enough time to tell some of the differences. Giant tends to run smaller than say a specialized, but feels a bit longer to me than say a bronson.
I would think that a large would be on the big side. Only way to tell for sure would be to go for a spin.

If your all about the descents, the SX is a great bike. I felt totally confident from the start. It climbed nicely, but having that head angle a little steeper on the Adv2 worked better for climbing, but still not near as well as the trance 29". Either way, those are smokin deals. Good luck.

Yes the carbon frame is better. I have an AASX 2015, and the compliance is night and day over aluminum.

If it was me I would go carbon, but I am partial to the Giant carbon bikes as that is all that we have in our garage.

Check out the Anthem SX 27.5, $3000 price point with nice equipment on it.

I have a 14 sx and I really like the bike, but with that being said don't buy the large and think you will flip it. Take a look on pinkbike and you will find some for sale there. Get the bike that fits best! You should know if you really need the extra travel of the sx.

What makes carbon more "compliant" does it flex more? My biggest drops are 4' tops the frame and suspension should handle that with now issues on either bike?

Its not flex its is viration absorption. The carbon frames are stiffer than their aluminum counterparts. Just a better ride quality.

what size stem on the large? looking at their sizing chart, you're right on the edge of M/L, if I were you i would try a short stem like a 50mm and see how that feels.
    nothing witty here...
