Question about new forks and axle length - is there anything longer than 108x9mm?

I have an old beater Trek 3700 that I just got a new set of Manitou forks for. When I went to put on my front wheel, I noticed the Manitou dropouts are about twice as wide as the original RST forks. I have to take the quick release bolt all the way off in order to get the wheel on, and there doesn't appear to be very much actual axle making contact with the dropout. I measured it and see that it's a standard 108mm. I'm thinking I need a slightly wider axle (110mm?) but don't know if such a thing exists. Not sure what to do, other than just throw it on as-is and hope the wheel doesn't fall off.

I'm going to guess that you need to remove your quick release so that it clears the "Lawyer Tabs" on the newer fork.
Can you take some pictures? A quick release axle (hub axle, not the quick release) should not extend past the dropout anyway, as the quick release needs to be able to clamp onto the dropout.
Any and all kinds of bikes.

I don't think a boost QR fork was ever a normal standard. Standard QR should be 100mm, boost is 110mm, but as far as I know they were 15mm or 20mm thru axle setups.

What model of Manitou was this? Something definitely doesn't sound right.
