    2008 26 Specialized stumjpumper elite or Giant Talon 3 29 2020

    I'm trying to decide between a 2008 specialized stumpjumper elite 26 and a Giant Talon 3 29 2020.
The specialized bike is full suspension with great condition fox suspension but do you think it's a good idea to buy an old bike and is 26inch ok for trail rides?

You are asking in the 26" forum wether you should choose a 26er or a 29er. The responses you get may be biased! With that in mind (along with the fact that I've been riding my 26" Specialized for around 25 years) here we go:
I don't even have to see the Giant, I'd ride the heck out of that Stumpy! I am assuming that the 'jumper is significantly cheaper, as it is "obsolete", but here's the big secret: it might be old tech, old geo, but it definitely won't be incompetent. As long as the stuff that is on it is still working, like the suspension and brakes, it'll get you down a lot of trails.
I took my 26er out on a quick trail run this morning, and only had a problem with wheel size once, as I couldn't quite get over a wet, slippery log across the trail, which was at least 8" thick.
    Damn. I want that bike.

The Specialized all day long 1000x over. I'm a hair biased because I just don't care about riding larger wheels these days but you're comparing a ~25lb FS with close to top tier components on it to a budget 29er POS that probably weights in the neighborhood of 36 - 37 lbs. There is absolutely no comparison in the quality of these rides.

Thanks for the replies. I got a good deal on the Stumpjumper and I'm going to shred the heck out of it.

The stumpy looks ginormous. Is that an XL frame? Is that the right size for you?

It's a size L a bit bigger than my normal size M but with the small wheels it's alright for me.

Do you think I need to service the fork though, to me it works just fine but I'm worried it's gonna have problems in the future.

Damn. I want it even more now that I know it is my size too. How tall are you? I know that with Specialized sizing, Large fits a rider from about 5'7" to maybe 5'11".
I'm the kind of gut that says if it ain't broke, don't fix it! You may want to look into availibility of parts for it, and stock up seals or whatever for when it does need work.
    Here are a few ideas:

    and perhaps a manual?

Service the shocks for sure. Air suspension these days needs to be serviced or it'll damage stanchions. It's not difficult or expensive to do yourself. A lowers service should be all you need, and maybe new air can seals for the rear shock.
