Stunning! IMO, the hottest 66 on this build forum. My lime SB-66 arrives on Tuesday and, accompanied by a few (ok, many) beers, will get built up this weekend. I also got those yellow Troy Lee grips and Spank pedals, but the white rims with the white fork on your bike are amazing. Congrats on an incredible bike!

I was going to do something similar on a SB95 if they offered that color but I'll be building a blacked out bike now with a little pop to it. Of course it'll be summer before it arrives.

Thought I'd drop mine in here.

weighs around 31 lbs. Not sure i trust my scale though.

parts that aren't obvious: i9 enduro wheels. tubless minions and nevegals. Formula the ones.

Gotta get used to this bike, the front end is a lot lower than my Bullit. Riding over the handle bars too much.

Finally after 6 long months. Nothing too bling, just X9. Swapped out the Truvativ stuff for Answer Protapers & Syncros Stem, waiting on a Syncros post.
The long wheelbase & slack head angle are taking a bit of getting used to.
Loving it after just 1 ride.

My 66

I wanted coil suspension, so I tried to lighten it up in key places with carbon fiber parts (i'll add raceface carbon 785mm handlebars when they're released). i'm not sure about the weight of the bike; probably around 31-33 lbs. Drivetrain: 1x9 with 39T action-tec cog. I had this setup on my Knolly DT and it worked perfectly with a saint short cage derailleur. Unfortunately, the wheelpath of the 66 requires a medium or perhaps even long cage derailleur, so i threw on some old XT long cage until I get it sorted out The bike climbs extremely well, but I'm not sure about the rest. I need more time on it. Reminds me of my TR450 dh bike: long, low and slack. you really need to get your weight on the front wheel for optimal cornering. i'll try to remember to post a better review after i've had more rides on the bike.

In it's element

My SB on the trail today (1/30/12) in the Columbia Gorge (Oregon). Only been on the SB for just less than two months, but already almost 30 rides on it in on my local favorite stuff and I am here to say this bike just flat out rips the trail! Build is med SB66 at just a smidge under 32lbs w/standard post, 32.8lbs w/adj. post when installed and have done +3k' trail climbs with some long bomber descents with no probs.

My SB after a bit of a rebuild and respec:

Large black SB-66, bought August 2011
New pivot bearings throughout after replacing warranty recall Switch link bearings
Fox RP23 Factory Kashima Adaptive Logic Boost Valve shock with 0.6 cu in air chamber reducer. Medium rebound, medium compression, 175psi boost valve.
Chris King Inset taper headset
Bos Deville 140mm fork
Mavic Crossmax SX wheels
Front: Bontrager XR4 Team Issue TLR 2.35
Rear: Maxxis Ignitor LUST 2.3 (had lying around)
XTR M980 Trail crankset double 38/26
XTR M985 Shadow Plus RD
XTR M980 FD 2x
XTR M988 Trail brakes
XTR M980 i-spec shifters
XT cassette 11-36
RT86 Ice-Tec 203mm front rotor
RT86 Ice-Tec 180mm rear rotor
Rockshox Reverb seatpost
Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow (had lying around)
Easton Haven 55mm stem
Easton Havoc 750mm carbon bar
Yeti lock-on grips
Nukeproof Neutron flat pedals

The Bos fork at 140mm keeps the same axle to crown as the Fox 32 150mm, so this should be rocking a 67 degree head angle. The Bos makes much more effective use of its travel than the Fox as well, so this seems to be a very good match for the back end of the SB without ending up slacker than standard.

The aim was for an ultimate trail build for UK use on the North Downs and at trail centres. I've been spending some time on a 1x10 setup on a Devinci Dixon which I like for its simplicity and security. I plan to get my fitness up so I can ride everything on a 34T or 36T single chainring but 2x10 makes sense for now.

My 66

This bike is pretty amazing, fast up, down and around.

Running the standard Yeti XO build kit. Waiting on my 50mm stem to arrive and looking for a new rear tire. At the moment comes in at around 12.8kg.

Noticed today after my ride that I have already dented the XR400 rims, any suggestions for something a bit more hardy? Looking to still keep weight reasonable.

Aus build? I got the same build on my 575 and pretty much went straight onto I9>Flows, not giving much away in the weight dept but a much more dependable wheel/rim.

Yeah the Aus build kits are strange in the rolling stock dept.. Soft XC rims and super soft XC racing ralph tyres on a 6in travel bike??

Just threw a Nobby Nic on the front of mine and spent the night in the garage setting up tubeless while it pissed down rain.. And put on an Easton Haven 70mm stem. Feels a bit stiffer than the Thomson with wide bars. Crept under 13kg now..

From what I have seen it looks like the build kits are the same across the board, from the short travel bikes to the bigger ones. Would be much better if they had stronger parts for the bigger bike, at least in the rolling stock department.

My bike came with a Hans Dampf up front which is nice, but the rear that came was a Racing Ralph 29"! Yeah it didn't fit real well....

Mine came with EX500s on X9 hubs. Quite happy about that, even with the 200g penalty for the pair.

How do you get the xtr cranks to work single on the front? Did you use the double or triple ones?

You can use the M980 double or triple cranks - they both have a 64/104mm chainring BCD. The M985 double cranks have a funky 88mm BCD and don't lend themselves to a single-ring set up.
