2011 yet enduro with elixir 5 brakes--need better brakes

    Hey guys,

I have never been happy with the elixir brakes on my yeti. They don't feel much better than the brakes on my old trek hybrid. I am not up on the best brakes these days. What would be a nice, low maintnece, lightweight brake setup for trail riding?

My XT's threw me over the bars, I'm happy with them on my 575.

I have also like the XT and SLX brakes I had on my 575's. Right now I am running Hayes Prime Pro's on my ASR7 and they have plenty of power and control when I am doing DH runs and shredding Moab. I would recommend either of Shimano or the Hayes but whatever you do avoid avid. The New 2013 SLX brakes should be available soon.

    Shimano XT

You start and stop on a bike and everything in between is on you. Don't go for the lowest price on brakes. I have XT's on my 575 and I couldn't be happier. Unless I got the 2012 version of the XT brakes.

Coached basketball which ended in March and now 2 baseball teams. I will be done in June and I am now getting back on the bike. Just added a Joplin 4r dropper and ready to get pedaling!!! I hope all is well. Don't give up on me, we'll get out soon!

+1 on XT.. Light, durable, and paired to 8 inch rotors on my ASR-7 they stop me more than fast enough.. My ONLY complaint about Shimano Brakes is the lack of aftermarket levers.. I Twenty6 levers on my Elixer CR's and they were the best levers I have ever ridden..

I wash between Shimano and Sram most of the time and probably favor Sram because I love GripShift, but for brakes, Its hands down Shimano every time.. I just wish I could get aftermarket levers..
