    A Year without USA Cycling

Due to the USAC's recent actions to try and prevent UCI registered pro mountain bikers from doing independently sanctioned races, I am boycotting USAC this year by not renewing my license and instead supporting independent race promoters. I've compiled a list of great independent races in this week's Angry Singlespeeder column.

I'd love to hear more ideas for great independent races, so post 'em up and pass the article around. Let's build a nationwide calendar that doesn't involve USAC!

    I'm here in Utah.

Doing Top of Utah Crit Series, Utah State Championship Series, Mt. Ogden Race Series, Mt. Ogden 50K, and Utah Cyclocross Series.

ALL OF THEM, NO LICENSE REQUIRED!!! I'll take that 60 bucks and buy a few cases of Guinness.

But we are registering our club with USA Cycling. Their insurance is a good deal. You can't win them all. haha.

I think the Rocky Mountain Endurance series here in Colorado is USAC-free.

Well, I ended up caving. No USAC license, no track racing for me. My velodrome posted an April Fool's newsletter that they were going independent and I wanted to believe it so much that they got me until a little later, when I figured it out from some comments elsewhere.

I am with you. I am not going to renew and I am going to scrape the sticker off my Jeep. I am doing RME (Rocky Mountain Endurance Series) this year, and it is definitely indy. I did RME and MSC (Mountain States Cup) last year. There is a huge difference in the quality of the support/goodies/event. I didn't realize why until this issue came up. Death to the UCI in the USA.
