Worth getting a USAC license?
There are about 10 events in the local USAC-sponsored series. I seriously doubt I'll ever put in enough time and effort to upgrade past sport class.
Is there much of a reason to spend the $60 for a license if I'm not going to ever be a Cat1/Pro?
If I'm only buying the $5 one-day license at each race, do I have the option of either selecting Cat 2 or Cat 3? I'm a beginner, doing my first race in a few weeks as a Cat 3. My half-ass thread searches haven't really found anything that addresses this.
Thanks for any help.
sometimes it is cheaper to buy the license if you are going to be paying $5 a race but in your case it is not.
with the license you also get discounts on hotels, car rentals, insurance, gear, etc so that might pay off since it is only $10 more then the $50 you are paying for the race season.
plus you get to have a profile and see where you rank against other people around the country (not sure if you can do that without having it).
and yes, you can choice cat 2 or 3 unless they changed that.
Good point about the insurance and discounts. And I didn't consider the rankings. That'd be kind of fun.
I believe you can use the one passes toward the price of the regular license if you choose to get it later.
