where do you keep your keys when you race?

The last thing I want to do is lose my keys on the racetrail, and I dont' want to carry more packs/bags than I have to. What's your solution?

Hidden in the cars front shock mount, there's a nice nesting place for them there.

Get a copy made and carry just the one key, you can safety pin it to you if you're afraid of losing it.

For races, inside the rear bumper. I would really like to just leave them in the ignition but that might be pushing it. Most times I leave the car/trunk open so I can get to my stuff easier before/after warmup and race. There are so many theft deterrents at a race (why would they steal my '95 nissan if I'm parked next to a 2013 5 series BMW?)

At trailheads anywhere, I carry them with me. They've had car break in's at trailheads.

Simply in the back pocket of my jersey. Haven't lost a key in over 20 years. Actually haven't lost anything ever from there.

I have a hide-a-key that works great. Lock the keys and fob in the van and just get back in with the hide-a-key.

This week I just clipped the keys and key-fob to the coil spring in my front suspension with a carabiner. Works great.

In a quart size ziploc bag with the air squeezed out, folded up inside a jersey pocket. The theory with the ziploc bag is that it should be easier to spot on the ground in the event of a yard sale or what have you, and also the added bulk keeps it from bouncing around inside (and possibly out of) the jersey pocket.

On the ground, in the base of a bush, with a leaf or similar placed on top even though this final redundant step, assuming the parking area or trailhead has some foliage available. Seriously!

Even if I told someone how I hide my keys, they'd have to be really lucky or have a crapload of time to find them. Virtually impossible anyone is going to randomly come across them within the space of a few hours while I'm riding.

If you're the type who can't keep one bush straight from the others, don't do this. Try one of the other suggestions instead.

On the ground tucked behind the front tire. If it's raining/wet I'll put them in a ziplock so the remote doesn't get wet.

Lost a set while dirt biking years ago and didn't have enough gas in the bike to go looking for them. Took half a day to get the wife to run me up a spare 1.5hr drive from home. They were in a zip up pocket on my vest which somehow became unzipped.

Now I keep all my keys in the car except car key which I zip tye on to the handle bars so I can see them and know the second they might go missing.

Ha! Hasn't happened yet, but I guess if I ever go to retrieve my keys and they have a funky smell to them, then I'll only have myself to blame after your warning.

I will also take special care to avoid putting my keys in a spot that may be high risk for flash floods, and will promise to not put any chunks of raw meat on my key ring, both of which may also reduce my chances of finding my keys where I left them.

I use a tulbag from backcountry research. It has a sticky outside liner that keeps it from bouncing out of your jersey pocket. I wear one jersey that has a zipper pocket.

Inside the tulbag I keep my car keey (I take it off of the keyring), a rubber boot, a $10 bill in case I need to boot a tire or for emergency, some quicklinks 9 and 10 speed, a small patch kit, and my multi-tool.

That way I just need to make sure that each bike has tubes/air and I am good to go.

I haven't used it yet, but I bought one of those house type contractors combination keyboxes, I can lock it to my roof-rack (or anywhere else handy). I suppose to be even safer I could lock it to the registration table or tent, or the team tent. I saw a guy last season with a combination lock-cover that inserted into his trailer hitch hole (making the trailer hitch hole into a keybox, that looked pretty handy too.

where do you keep your keys when you race?

Valet key goes in zippered jersey side pocket or clip thingy inside Camelback pocket. I see a lot of folks put their car key on top of car tire or under the bumper and just don't feel comfortable dong that...

Wife's purse. Or in a ziploc with my phone and wallet. If I take only my car key and not a full set, it's very light and compact.

This is all just reminding me how high end kit manufacturers should really consider a zipped key pocket on all jerseys......yes all jerseys.

I keep mine in my jersey bag that holds a cell phone and money....but still I am always concerned it is going to fly out of my pocket without me knowing.

    I hate saddle bags fwiw....so..

I know this is probably pretty weird for some, but it works out great for me.... I have the folding key/fob deal so I can easily slip it into my anus. Never lost a key. Ever.

If my wires with me well obvious answer. Any other time I always have a small underseat pouch for multitool, co2, patches. And leaves just enough room for my keys.

Don't you get tired of waiting around after the race for the key to extract itself?

I would guess its something like a tampon, has fishing line attached that just sticks to the taint for easy extraction when its time to head home.

I had a neighbor once who used to leave his car unlocked all the time, said there was nothing in the car that was worth more than the cost of a replacement window. He knew someone had been in the car, once, when it was obvious it had been rifled through. He was surprised they didn't want any of his old country/western cassettes. Go figure.

Who wants to steal a minivan? My keys are usually laying on the console. The biggest loss if it were stolen would be my T2 rack.
