Training with out the bike.
I was told a couple of days ago that I have to stop riding my bikes for the next 3 months due to possible infertility issues that my wife and I are going thru. I have searched on the internet and know that most of what is out there about infertility and cycling is suspect and there doesn't seem to be any real study out there that says it causes infertility. With that said my wife and I want to start a family and that is my first and foremost concern. We will be seeing her Ob/Gyn in a little over a week and will discuss what more I need to do. The most heartbreaking thing about this for me is that I'm in the Leadville 100 race this year as I got in last year doing a qualifier. Needless to say 3 months off the bike is going to make it really tough to get ready for it. I will also add that my wife has been fantastic and said that I should just keep riding and do the race and then we can worry about it, but I've made her wait long enough.
Now I'm asking you guys what I should do for the next 3 months to keep up my endurance as best as I can. I know it won't be the same as being on the bike, but the hope is that I will be able to get back on the bike in 3 months and that will give me 4 months to hopefully prepare for Leadville. Any ideas? Right now the only idea I have is running which I hated doing as a kid. I might enjoy it now and will probably start running tomorrow.
